Claims
- 1. A method for directing an antenna for transmission over a two-way satellite communication system via a graphical user interface (GUI), the method comprising:
receiving via the GUI location information associated with the antenna, downloading via the GUI antenna pointing parameters; displaying via the GUI the antenna pointing parameters; and instructing a user via the GUI to selectively point the antenna based upon the downloaded antenna pointing parameters.
- 2. The method according to claim 1, wherein the step of displaying the antenna pointing details includes displaying the antenna pointing details associated with a beacon satellite (107) based upon the location information.
- 3. The method according to claim 2, wherein the step of downloading antenna pointing parameters includes establishing via the beacon satellite a temporary channel to a hub and downloading the antenna pointing parameters from the hub over the temporary channel.
- 4. The method according to claim 1, wherein the step of receiving location information includes receiving the location information via a dial-up connection established by the GUI.
- 5. The method according to claim 3, wherein the step of establishing the temporary channel includes designating a default transponder to support the temporary channel.
- 6. The method according to claim 1, wherein the step of downloading antenna pointing parameters includes downloading the antenna pointing parameters via a dial-up connection established by the GUI.
- 7. The method according to claim 3, wherein the step of establishing the temporary channel includes providing connectivity of the hub to a packet switched network.
- 8. The method according to claim 7, wherein the step of providing connectivity includes providing connectivity of the hub to a packet switched network comprising an IP (Internet Protocol) network.
- 9. The method according to claim 1, further comprising:
displaying via the GUI signal strength associated with the antenna based upon antenna position.
- 10. The method according to claim 1, further comprising:
providing via the GUI a signal strength tone signal associated with the antenna based upon antenna position.
- 11. The method according to claim 1, wherein the step of displaying antenna pointing parameters includes displaying antenna pointing parameters including at least one of satellite longitude (East or West), satellite longitude, satellite polarization, satellite polarization offset, and satellite frequency.
- 12. The method according to claim 1, further comprising:
measuring signal strength associated with the antenna using a voltmeter that is coupled to the antenna.
- 13. A system for directing an antenna for transmission over a two-way satellite network, the system comprising:
a transceiver coupled to the antenna and configured transmit and receive signals over the two-way satellite network; and a user terminal coupled to the transceiver and configured to execute an antenna pointing graphical user interface (GUI) program, wherein the GUI receives location information associated with the antenna, downloads antenna pointing parameters, displays the antenna pointing parameters and instructs a user to selectively point the antenna based upon the downloaded antenna pointing parameters.
- 14. The system according to claim 13, wherein the antenna pointing details are associated with a beacon satellite based upon the location information.
- 15. The system according to claim 14, wherein the antenna pointing parameters are downloaded from a hub over a temporary channel established via the beacon satellite.
- 16. The system according to claim 13, wherein the location information is received via a dial-up connection established by the GUI.
- 17. The system according to claim 15, wherein a default transponder is designated to support the temporary channel.
- 18. The system according to claim 13, the antenna pointing parameters are downloaded via a dial-up connection established by the GUI.
- 19. The system according to claim 15, wherein the hub is connected to a packet switched network.
- 20. The system according to claim 19, wherein the packet switched network comprises an IP (Internet Protocol) network.
- 21. The system according to claim 13, wherein signal strength associated with the antenna based upon antenna position is displayed via the GUI.
- 22. The system according to claim 13, wherein a signal strength tone signal associated with the antenna based upon antenna position is provided via the GUI.
- 23. The system according to claim 13, wherein the antenna pointing parameters include at least one of satellite longitude (East or West), satellite longitude, satellite polarization, satellite polarization offset, and satellite frequency.
- 24. The system according to claim 13, wherein signal strength associated with the antenna is measured using a voltmeter that is coupled to the antenna.
- 25. A system for directing an antenna for transmission over a two-way satellite communication system, the method comprising:
means for receiving information associated with the antenna; means for downloading antenna pointing parameters; means for displaying the antenna pointing parameters; and means for instructing a user to selectively point the antenna based upon the downloaded antenna pointing parameters.
- 26. The system according to claim 25, wherein the means for displaying the antenna pointing details includes means displaying the antenna pointing details associated with a beacon satellite based upon the location information.
- 27. The system according to claim 26, wherein the means for downloading antenna pointing parameters includes means for establishing via the beacon satellite a temporary channel to a hub and downloading the antenna pointing parameters from the hub over the temporary channel.
- 28. The system according to claim 25, wherein the means for receiving location information includes means for receiving the location information via a dial-up connection.
- 29. The system according to claim 27, wherein the means for establishing the temporary channel includes means for designating a default transponder to support the temporary channel.
- 30. The system according to claim 25, wherein the means for downloading antenna pointing parameters includes means for downloading the antenna pointing parameters via a dial-up connection.
- 31. The system according to claim 27, wherein the means for establishing the temporary channel includes means for providing connectivity of the hub to a packet switched network.
- 32. The system according to claim 31, wherein the means for providing connectivity includes means for providing connectivity of the hub to a packet switched network comprising an IP (Internet Protocol) network.
- 33. The system according to claim 25, further comprising:
means for displaying signal strength associated with the antenna based upon antenna position.
- 34. The system according to claim 25, further comprising:
means for providing a signal strength tone signal associated with the antenna based upon antenna position.
- 35. The system according to claim 25, wherein the means for displaying antenna pointing parameters includes means for displaying antenna pointing parameters including at least one of satellite longitude (East or West), satellite longitude, satellite polarization, satellite polarization offset, and satellite frequency.
- 36. The system according to claim 25, further comprising:
means for measuring signal strength associated with the antenna using a voltage measuring means coupled to the antenna.
- 37. A computer-readable medium carrying one or more sequences of one or more instructions for directing an antenna for transmission over a two-way satellite communication system via a graphical user interface (GUI), the one or more sequences of one or more instructions including instructions which, when executed by one or more processors, cause the one or more processors to perform the steps of:
receiving via the GUI location information associated with the antenna; downloading via the GUI antenna pointing parameters; displaying via the GUI the antenna pointing parameters; and instructing a user via the GUI to selectively point the antenna based upon the downloaded antenna pointing parameters.
- 38. The computer-readable medium according to claim 37, wherein the step of displaying the antenna pointing details includes displaying the antenna pointing details associated with a beacon satellite based upon the location information.
- 39. The computer-readable medium according to claim 38, wherein the step of downloading antenna pointing parameters includes establishing via the beacon satellite a temporary channel to a hub and downloading the antenna pointing parameters from the hub over the temporary channel.
- 40. The computer-readable medium according to claim 37, wherein the step of receiving location information includes receiving the location information via a dial-up connection established by the GUI.
- 41. The computer-readable medium according to claim 39, wherein the step of establishing the temporary channel includes designating a default transponder to support the temporary channel.
- 42. The computer-readable medium according to claim 37, wherein the step of downloading antenna pointing parameters includes downloading the antenna pointing parameters via a dial-up connection established by the GUI.
- 43. The computer-readable medium according to claim 39, wherein the step of establishing the temporary channel includes providing connectivity of the hub to a packet switched network.
- 44. The computer-readable medium according to claim 43, wherein the step of providing connectivity includes providing connectivity of the hub to a packet switched network comprising an IP (Internet Protocol) network.
- 45. The computer-readable medium according to claim 37, the one or more processors further performing the step of:
displaying via the GUI signal strength associated with the antenna based upon antenna position.
- 46. The computer-readable medium according to claim 37, the one or more processors further performing the step of:
providing via the GUI a signal strength tone signal associated with the antenna based upon antenna position.
- 47. The computer-readable medium according to claim 37, wherein the step of displaying antenna pointing parameters includes displaying antenna pointing parameters including at least one of satellite longitude (East or West), satellite longitude, satellite polarization, satellite polarization offset, and satellite frequency.
