Claims
- 1. A counter balance means for a pivotally mounted cover having at least one pintle determining an axis of pivotal movement comprising: a lever mounted on said pintle, a link having a first end pivotally connected to said lever at a first end thereof, and having a second end, a coil spring connected to said link at a first end of said coil spring, said coil spring having a second end in fixed position relative to said pintle.
- 2. In a chafing dish including a supporting frame and a cover element mounted for rotation about an axis passing through the body of said cover, improved means for progressively counterbalancing said cover comprising: a pair of pintles supporting said cover for movement about said axis, a lever extending laterally from at least one of said pintles, and fixed thereto at a first end thereof, a link having first and second ends, a first end being pivotally connected to said lever at a second end of said lever a spring having first and second ends, said first end being connected to said second end of said link, said second end of said spring being connected to a peripheral location on said frame; whereby movement of said cover element from closed to open position results in progressive tensioning of said spring to provide a variable counter balancing force to said lever as said link progressively approaches said pintle.
- 3. Improved means in accordance with claim 2, in which said link surrounds said pintle after 180 degree rotation to cancel the counter balancing force of said spring.
- 4. Improved means in accordance with claim 2, said spring being a longitudinally tensioning type.
- 5. Improved means in accordance with claim 2, said spring being a torsion spring mounted on said frame and having first and second arms, said first arm being connected to said second end of said link, said second arm being connected to said frame.
