Claims
- 1. A method for down-regulating a stage in the growth of tumors which are sensitive to a compound of formula (I) selected from the group consisting of tumor initiation, tumor promotion, and tumor metastasis comprising administering to a patient in need thereof an effective amount of a compound of formula wherein R1, represents hydrogen or from 1 to 4 substituents in positions 1-4 or positions 7-10, said substituents selected from the group consisting of halogen, C1-C4 alkyl groups, C1-C4 alkoxy groups, trifluoromethyl, trichloromethyl, wherein in one of positions 7-10 R1, represents a hydroxyl group; X is a group —(CH2)n,—R2 wherein R2 represents a nitrogen containing basic residue selected from the group consisting of NH2, NHR4, and NR5R6, wherein R4, R5 and R6 independently are lower alkyl or cycloalky and n is an integer of from 1 to 4, R3 represents hydrogen, lower alkyl groups, lower cycloalkyl groups and the physiologically acceptable addition products of the compounds with acids and halogen adducts.
- 2. The method according to claim 1 wherein said patient has been exposed to a mutagenic substance which is a mutagen according to the Salmonella test or mutagenic radiation.
- 3. The method according to claim 1 wherein said patient has been treated with a drug which is a mutagen according to the Salmonella test.
- 4. The method according to claim 2 wherein the mutagenic substance is selected from the group consisting of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, nitrated polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, and nitrosamines.
