Claims
- 1. A paper substrate having at least a major portion of its surface treated with a cured mixture of 100 to 19% by weight of a C.sub.(8-28) .alpha.-olefin oxide and correspondingly from 0 to 81% by weight of a polyfunctional epoxy resin based on the use of an effective amount of an arylonium salt of the formula,

- where Y is a member selected from
- [(R).sub.a (R.sup.1).sub.b I] and
- [(R).sub.c (R.sup.2).sub.d (R.sup.3).sub.e S],
- where R is a monovalent aromatic organic radical, R.sup.1 is a divalent aromatic organic radical, R.sup.2 is a monovalent organic aliphatic radical selected from alkyl, cyclo alkyl and substituted alkyl, R.sup.3 is a polyvalent organic radical forming a heterocyclic or fused ring structure, M is a metal or metalloid, Q is a halogen radical, a is a whole number equal to 0 or 2, b is a whole number equal to 0 or 1, and the sum of a+b is equal to 1 or 2, c is a whole number equal to 0 to 3 inclusive, d is a whole number equal to 0 or 1, e is a whole number equal to 0 to 1, and the sum of c, d and e is equal to 1 to 3 inclusive, and n is an integer equal to 4-6 inclusive.
- 2. A paper substrate in accordance with claim 1, where the polyfunctional epoxy resin is 3,4-epoxycyclohexylmethyl-3',4'-epoxycyclohexane carboxylate.
- 3. A paper substrate in accordance with claim 1, where a mixture of C.sub.(8-28) .alpha.-olefin oxides is used.
- 4. A composite structure of a pressure sensitive adhesive tape or label in contact with a paper substrate treated with a paper release coating comprising a cured mixture of 100 to 19% by weight of a C.sub.(8-28) .alpha.-olefin oxide and correspondingly from 0 to 81% by weight of a polyfunctional epoxy resin based on the use of an effective amount of an arylonium salt of the formula,

- where Y is a member selected from
- [(R).sub.a (R.sup.1).sub.b I] and
- [(R).sub.c (R.sup.2).sub.d (R.sup.3).sub.e S],
- where R is a monovalent aromatic organic radical, R.sup.1 is a divalent aromatic organic radical, R.sup.2 is a monovalent organic aliphatic radical selected from alkyl, cyclo alkyl and substituted alkyl, R.sup.3 is a polyvalent organic radical forming a heterocyclic or fused ring structure, M is a metal or metalloid, Q is a halogen radical, a is a whole number equal to 0 or 2, b is a whole number equal to 0 or 1, and the sum of a+b is equal to 1 or 2, c is a whole number equal to 0 to 3 inclusive, d is a whole number equal to 0 or 1, e is a whole number equal to 0 or 1, and the sum of c, d and e is equal to 1 to 3 inclusive, and n is an integer equal to 4-6 inclusive.
- 5. A composite structure in accordance with claim 4, where the epoxy resin is 3,4-epoxycyclohexylmethyl-3',4'-epoxycyclohexane carboxylate.
- 6. A composite structure in accordance with claim 4, where the C.sub.(8-28) .alpha.-olefin oxide is a mixture of C.sub.15 -C.sub.18 .alpha.-olefin oxides.
