Claims
- 1. A water seal recirculating system used for evacuating oral cavity effluent from dental operatories comprising a collection tank, a reservoir tank, a vacuum pump having a water primed shaft seal, at least one tube extending from the collection tank to an operatory for conveying effluent to the collection tank, the vacuum pump having an air inlet line communicating with the collection tank for drawing air from the collection tank thereby creating a partial vacuum and establishing a vacuum pull for effluent from the operatory through the at least one conveying tube, a recirculating line which receives seal water from the seal water outlet of the vacuum pump and directs the seal water to the reservoir tank, a seal water inlet for drawing seal water from the reservoir for recirculation to the vacuum pump, means for regulating the volume of seal water entering the seal water inlet, means for directing the air from the collection tank in heat transfer relationship with seal water in the inlet to the vacuum pump, means for drawing seal water directly from the reservoir to the vacuum pump shaft seal, means responsive to the level of seal water in the reservoir tank for augmenting the volume of recirculating seal water with tap water, and means for periodically emptying effluent collected in the tank.
- 2. A water seal recirculating system as defined in claim 1 in which the reservoir tank is vented to ambience, and which further includes a trap to separate seal water from air exhausting through the vent.
- 3. A water seal recirculating system used for evacuating oral cavity effluent from dental operatories comprising a tank horizontally divided into an upper collection tank and a lower reservoir tank, a vacuum pump having water primed seals, at least one tube extending from the collection tank to an operatory for conveying effluent to the collection tank, the vacuum pump having an air inlet line communicating with the collection tank for drawing air from the collection tank thereby creating a partial vacuum and establishing a vacuum pull for effluent from the operatory through the at least one conveying tube, a recirculating line which receives seal water from the seal water outlet of the vacuum pump and directs the seal water to the reservoir tank, a seal water inlet for drawing seal water from the reservoir for recirculation to the vacuum pump, means for regulating the volume of seal water entering the seal water inlet, means for directing the air from the collection tank in heat transfer relationship with seal water in the inlet to the vacuum pump, means for drawing seal water directly from the reservoir to the vacuum pump seals, means responsive to the level of seal water in the reservoir tank for augmenting the volume of recirculating seat water with tap water, and means for periodically emptying effluent collected in the tank.
- 4. A system for evacuating oral cavity effluent from dental operatories comprising a tank divided into a collection tank and a reservoir tank, a vacuum pump, at least one tube extending from the collection tank to an operatory for conveying effluent to the collection tank, the vacuum pump having an air inlet line communicating with the collection tank for drawing air from the collection tank thereby creating a partial vacuum and establishing a vacuum pull for effluent from the operatory through the at least one conveying tube, an enclosed extension tank having a top wall, the extension tank connected to the collection tank by a combined vacuum/drain line by which the extension tank is evacuated through the collection tank by the vacuum pump, the extension tank located on a lower level to receive effluent from the collection tank by gravity flow through the combined vacuum/drain line, the vacuum/drain line and an outlet line of the extension tank being located in the top wall thereof so that solid constituents of effluent are trapped in the extension tank, and means for quickly disconnecting and reconnecting an extension tank to the combined vacuum/drain and outlet lines.
- 5. A system for evacuating oral cavity effluent from dental operatories comprising a tank divided into a collection tank and a reservoir tank, a vacuum pump, at least one tube extending from the collection tank to an operatory for conveying effluent to the collection tank, the vacuum pump having an air inlet line communicating with the collection tank for drawing air from the collection tank thereby creating a partial vacuum and establishing a vacuum pull for effluent from the operatory through the at least one conveying tube, an enclosed extension tank having a top wall, the extension tank connected to the collection tank by a combined vacuum/drain line by which the extension tank is evacuated through the collection tank by the vacuum pump, the extension tank located on a lower level to receive effluent from the collection tank by gravity flow through the combined vacuum/drain line, an outlet line extending from the extension tank to an effluent drain line, a one-way check valve in the outlet line for dosing when the extension tank is evacuated, the vacuum/drain line and the outlet line of the extension tank being located in the top wall thereof so that solid constitutents of effluent are trapped in the extension tank, and means for quickly disconnecting and reconnecting an extension tank to the combined vacuum/drain and outlet lines.
