Claims
- 1. A vacuum toilet comprising:
- a bowl having a downwardly extending wall portion sloping inwardly to a drain portion defining a drain opening and bottom surface surrounding said drain opening;
- valve means operative to selectively open and close said drain opening and including a movable valve element;
- valve orifice means disposed on the opposite side of said valve means from said bowl, and support means funnelling down to said orifice means;
- said movable valve element cooperating with a stationary valve seat and said seat and element positioned so that upon movement of said valve an initial passageway is provided for providing flow of waste material from said bowl past said valve element to said orifice means; and
- means for operatively connecting said orifice means to a vacuum source;
- said orifice means positioned with respect said valve means and said drain opening so that said initial passageway is disposed directly above said orifice means in substantially vertical alignment therewith.
- 2. A vacuum toilet as recited in claim 1 wherein said orifice means has a center line, and wherein the center line of said orifice means is directly below said initial passageway, in substantially vertical alignment therewith.
- 3. A vacuum toilet as recited in claim 2 wherein said orifice means has a cross sectional area much smaller than the cross-sectional area of said drain opening.
- 4. A vacuum toilet as recited in claim 3 in combination with a system for handling waste from said vacuum toilet and including a vacuum tank comprising said source of vacuum, a vacuum pump, and a holding or treatment tank; and wherein said orifice means comprises the smallest cross-sectional area portion in said entire system.
- 5. A vacuum toilet and a system as recited in claim 4 wherein said orifice means has a cross-sectional area that is substantially circular and approximately one inch in diameter.
- 6. A vacuum toilet as recited in claim 2 wherein the center line of said orifice means is off-center from the center line of said drain opening by at least one inch.
- 7. A vacuum toilet as recited in claim 1 wherein said movable valve element is mounted for rotation about an axis general perpendicular to said drain opening and has a generally hemispherical shape.
- 8. A vacuum toilet as recited in claim 1 wherein said valve means is mounted for reciprocal linear movement with respect to said drain opening.
