Claims
- 1. A valve adapted to be used in a hydrotherapy bathing apparatus for directing water therein to either circulate from the bath via a drain conduit and a return conduit to a pump to be returned to the bath, while an overflow from the bath to waste remains open, or to flow to a waste line from said conduits and said bath, said valve comprising:
- a valve housing adapted to connect to said drain conduit, said return conduit, said waste line and said overflow;
- a valve body slidably mounted within said housing to move between a first drain position and a second closed position, said valve body including a passage which is adapted to connect said drain conduit to said return conduit when said valve body is in said closed position;
- a seal cooperating with said valve housing and adapted to close said waste line to said conduits when said valve body is in said closed position, said seal adapted to open said waste line to said conduits in said drain position; and
- said valve body and valve housing defining a passageway through said valve housing, said passageway adapted to provide fluid communication between said overflow and said waste line when said valve body is in either said drain or closed position in said housing.
- 2. A valve as claimed in claim 1, wherein said overflow passageway has a generally semi-cylindrical shape.
- 3. A valve adapted for use in a hydrotherapy bathing apparatus for directing water therein to either circulate from the bath via a drain conduit and a return conduit to a pump to be returned to the bath, while an overflow from the bath to waste remains open, or to flow to a waste line from said conduits and said bath, said valve comprising:
- a generally cylindrical valve body having means for directing water, which when said valve is in place and in use in said apparatus during hydrotherapy will direct water from said drain conduit to said return conduit, said means for directing comprising a cavity in one side of said valve, wherein said cavity has a generally semi-cylindrical shape having a flat, substantially rectangular wall lying in a plane substantially parallel to the longitudinal axis of said valve;
- sealing means, that when said valve is in position in said apparatus will simultaneously close said waste line to said conduits; and
- walls defining a passageway through said valve, said passageway providing fluid communication between said overflow and said waste line when said valve is in position in said apparatus.
- 4. A housing and valve body combination, adapted for use in a hydrotherapy bathing apparatus comprising:
- a single valve housing having four separate ports adapted for fluid communication with each of a bath overflow pipe, a bath drain pipe, a pump return line pipe, and a sewer line pipe respectively; and
- a valve body, movably mounted within said housing to intersect said four ports positions;
- a first operative position in which said valve body is adapted to connect said drain, return line and overflow to said sewer line; and
- a second operative position in which said valve body is adapted to connect said overflow to said sewer line and means in at least one of said housing and valve body adapted to connect said drain to said return line when said valve body is in said second mode.
- 5. A valve, adapted for use in a hydrotherapy bathing apparatus having a pump return line pipe, a sewer line pipe and a bath drain pipe which join in mutually perpendicular directions at a single location, said valve comprising:
- a valve housing adapted for mounting at said single location and
- a valve body movable within said valve housing between first and second positions;
- said valve body adapted to deflect liquid from said bath drain pipe, at a first right angle lying in a first plane, to said sewer line pipe, when said valve body is in said first position; and
- said valve body adapted to deflect liquid from said bath drain pipe, at a second right angle lying in a plane normal to the plane of said first right angle, to said pump return line when said valve body is in said second position.
- 6. A valve, adapted for placement in a junction that joins together at the same point each of the drain, return, overflow and waste lines of a hydrotherapy bathing apparatus, said valve comprising:
- a generally cylindrical valve body comprising upper and lower ends and an outer wall between said ends;
- first and second sealing means adjacent and around said upper and lower ends, respectively, for sealing the periphery of each of said ends to the interior of said junction against liquid leakage when the valve is in an operative position wherein said valve connects said drain line with said return line;
- a passageway through said body between said upper and lower ends, for providing a path for liquid between said overflow and waste lines when the valve is in said operative position in said apparatus; and
- a cavity in the outer wall of said body, for providing a means of liquid communication between said drain and return lines when the valve is in position and in use in said apparatus for hydrotherapy.
- 7. A valve as claimed in claim 6, wherein said cavity has a generally semi-cylindrical shape having a flat, substantially rectangular wall lying in a plane substantially parallel to the longitudinal axis of said valve.
- 8. A valve as claimed in claim 6, wherein said passageway has a generally semi-cylindrical cross section.
- 9. A valve adapted to be used in a hydrotherapy bath apparatus whereby said vale, in a first operative position, connects a bath drain pipe to a return pipe while maintaining fluid communication between a bath overflow and sewer pipe and in a second operative position, allows the bath overflow, return and drain pipes to drain out through the bath sewer pipe, said valve comprising:
- a cylindrical valve housing having a first cylindrical hollow bore extending longitudinally therethrough along the center axis, said hollow bore adapted to be connected between a bath overflow and sewer pipe, and first and second ports extending radially through the sides of said housing in fluid communication with the hollow bore, said ports adapted to be connected to bath drain and return pipes;
- a cylindrical valve body having a second hollow bore extending longitudinally therethrough, said first and second bores defining a first conduit through both the valve body and housing allowing for constant fluid communication through said conduit, said valve body further having a cavity extending radially into the cylindrical outside of said body and said body being slidably movable within said housing between two operative positions;
- a first operative position whereby said valve body cavity defines a first channel for fluid communication between the first and second ports while a second channel is defined by said conduit extending through said valve body and housing; and
- a second operative position whereby the first conduit and said first and second ports are all in fluid communication whereby a bath overflow, drain and return pipe may drain into the sewer pipe.
