- g) means associated with the valve shaft for imparting sufficient force between said primary sealing means and said first and second horizontal annular surfaces to form a horizontal seal between the primary sealing means and said first and second horizontal annular surfaces, to seal against the flow of fluid through said bore in the valve shaft housing.
- 8. The apparatus in claim 7, wherein the primary sealing means comprises polytetrafluoroethylene.
- 9. The apparatus in claim 7, wherein the shoulder within the valve housing bore is formed on the wall of the valve housing.
- 10. The apparatus in claim 7, wherein the means for exerting force further comprises a coil spring.
- 11. The apparatus in claim 7, further comprising a raised annular ring for compressing a portion of the primary sealing means to form a primary fluid-tight seal between the raised ring and the first face of the primary sealing means.
- 12. The apparatus in claim 7, further comprising a secondary seal along that area of the first face of the primary sealing means between the raised ring and the bore wall in order to prevent fluid contact with the raised ring.
- 13. An apparatus for sealing fluid flow in a valve shaft bore, the apparatus comprising:
- a) a valve housing having a continuous bore therethrough;
- b) a valve shaft rotatable within the bore in the valve housing;
- c) a valving member at one end of the valve shaft for actuating the valve when the valve shaft is rotated;
- d) primary sealing means positioned perpendicular to and around said valve shaft;
- e) a first horizontal annular surface positioned on a shoulder within the valve housing bore in sealing engagement with the upper face of the primary sealing means, so as to seal against the flow of fluid along the bore wall in the valve shaft housing;
- f) a second horizontal annular surface positioned on a shoulder formed on the valve shaft in sealing engagement with the lower face of the primary sealing means so as to seal against the flow of fluid along the shaft wall; and
