Claims
- 1. A method of preparing a Variable Data Print job for printing comprising the steps of:
providing a Variable Data Print job containing a plurality of documents that are to be printed, wherein, each of said plurality of documents contains a plurality of variants that include elements related to content, layout and product intent; creating a plurality of groups, each of said groups being defined by commonality of said variants relating to layout and product intent; selecting at least one parameter from said variants and forming a plurality of sub-groups from said groups in accordance with said parameter; and arranging said sub-groups for printing in accordance to said parameter from the selecting step.
- 2. The method of claim 1, wherein the selecting step further comprises selecting as said parameter a range of said variants.
- 3. The method of claim 2, wherein the selecting step further comprises, selecting as said range of parameters one of said variants selected from: page count; media sequence; exceeding image area specification; copy count; finishing requirements; orientation sequence; or layout sequence.
- 4. The method of claim 1, wherein the selecting step further comprises manually selecting said parameter via a user interface.
- 5. The method of claim 1, wherein the steps of creating, selecting, and arranging are performed until said sub-groups are within a predetermined size.
- 6. The method of claim 5, wherein said predetermined size is determined automatically.
- 7. The method of claim 5, wherein said predetermined size is determined manually through a user interface.
- 8. The method of claim 1, wherein the selecting step further comprises automatically selecting said parameter from content.
- 9. The method of claim 8, wherein said parameter from content is a profile of either: color; size; or density.
- 10. A system for preparing a Variable Data Print job for printing comprising:
a system having a processing element configured to receive a Variable Data Print job containing a plurality of documents that are to be printed, wherein each of said plurality of documents is defined by a plurality of variants that include elements related to content, layout and product intent; an algorithm running on said processing element that can read said variants and create, therefrom, a plurality of groups, each of said groups being defined by a commonality of said variants relating to layout and product intent; a selection mechanism that is coupled to said processing element for selecting at least one parameter from said variants and forming a plurality of sub-groups from said groups in accordance with said parameter; and an output device that outputs said plurality of sub-groups in accordance to said parameter from the selecting step.
- 11. The system of claim 10, wherein said selection mechanism further comprises selecting as said parameter a range of said variants.
- 12. The system of claim 11, wherein said range of parameters further comprises one of said variants selected from: page count; media sequence; exceeding image area specification; copy count; finishing requirements; orientation sequence; or layout sequence.
- 13. The system of claim 10, wherein said selection mechanism further comprises a user interface.
- 14. The system of claim 10, wherein said selection mechanism operates in accordance with said parameter until said sub-groups are within a predetermined size.
- 15. The system of claim 14, wherein said predetermined size is determined automatically by said processing element.
- 16. The system of claim 5, wherein said predetermined size is determined manually through a user interface.
- 17. The system of claim 10, wherein said selection mechanism further comprises means for said processing element to automatically select said parameter from content of said documents.
- 18. The system of claim 17, wherein said parameter from content is a profile of either: color; size; or density.
