Claims
- 1. A bushing with a variable response rate comprising a chamber with a piston or ram located therein, a remote chamber or vessel connected to the first chamber, means connecting the chamber with the remote chamber or vessel, fluid within at least one of the chambers, means to convey the fluid from one chamber to another, means of controlling the pressure in the first chamber and in the remote chamber or vessel, sealing means to close or restrict the conveyance of fluid, sensing means adapted to communicate with said sealing means.
- 2. In a vehicle with at least one axle and a frame a bushing of claim 1 located between the axle and the frame in which the sensing means senses tilt of the vehicle.
- 3. A bushing of claim 1 wherein the sensing means is selected from the group consisting of accelerometers, computers, pressure sensors and linear movement sensors.
- 4. A bushing of claim 1 wherein the means for conveying the fluid is a pump.
- 5. A bushing of claim 1 in which the means for conveying the fluid is a flexible chamber.
- 6. A bushing of claim 1 further comprising a coil spring adapted to urge the chamber to its initial position.
- 7. A bushing mechanism for restricting or preventing movement comprising;
a. Means to sense said movement to be prevented or reduced. b. Means to notify mechanism of said movement c. Means to restrict or prevent flow of fluid from a first chamber to a second chamber. d. Means to return fluid from second chamber to first
- 8. A method for restricting or preventing movement comprising;
a. Locating a compressible chamber between at least two structural elements; b. Compressing said chamber allowing fluid to exit into second chamber or vessel c. Said second chamber receives fluid and increases its force to return fluid to the first chamber.
- 9. Within a suspension system comprising at least one bushing, a method of controlling the movement of the body of the vehicle relative to the axle of the vehicle by controlling the hardness of the at least one bushing, such control being accomplished by the active management of the pressure of a hydraulic fluid within the bushing.
- 10. A method of restricting or preventing movement comprising:
a. setting a point of minimum or maximum movement to be tolerated; b. sensing when said vehicle attains said point of minimum or maximum movement occurs; c. applying an opposing force to the force generated by the movement by either preventing or reducing the flow of a hydraulic fluid between at least one chamber within a bushing.
- 11. A bushing with a variable response rate consisting of a chamber with a piston or ram located in the area of compression, a remote chamber or vessel connected to the first chamber able to receive fluid from first chamber or vessel, means for the second chamber to return said fluid under pressure after receiving it, means to seal the communication between the first and second chamber responsive to electrical input, sensor or sensors to signal said sealing means, and blocking or reducing the flow of fluid from the first chamber or vessel to the second as commanded.
