Claims
- 1. A method of conducting a vehicle business transaction with a customer, comprising:
granting possession of a vehicle chassis to the customer in a consumer transaction independently of a vehicle body, wherein the vehicle chassis includes:
a structural frame; a suspension system mounted with respect to the structural frame; at least three wheels rotatably mounted with respect to the suspension system; an energy conversion system mounted with respect to the structural frame, operably connected to at least one wheel, and controllable by wire; and a by-wire braking system mounted with respect to the frame and operably connected to at least one wheel; and granting possession of a vehicle body to the customer in a consumer transaction for selective attachment to the vehicle chassis.
- 2. The method of claim 1, further comprising attaching the vehicle body to the chassis.
- 3. The method of claim 2, wherein the body is attached to the chassis without performing significant value-added operations on the body at a chassis-attachment interface of the body to facilitate the attachment.
- 4. The method of claim 1, wherein said step of granting possession of a vehicle body is performed in exchange for returning a different vehicle body which had been previously attached to said chassis.
- 5. The method of claim 1, wherein said step of granting possession of a vehicle body is performed after removing a different vehicle body which had been previously attached to said chassis.
- 6. The method of claim 5, further comprising purchasing, exchanging, disposing of, or storing said different vehicle body of the customer.
- 7. The method of claim 1, further comprising maintaining an inventory of vehicle bodies which are selectively attachable to the vehicle chassis.
- 8. The method of claim 7, wherein said inventory comprises a plurality of bodies having at least 3 different body styles of varying designs and body categories based upon aesthetics or functionality, each style of body being selectively attachable to said vehicle chassis.
- 9. The method of claim 8, wherein said inventory includes at least two body styles engageable with the chassis which are selected from the group consisting of sedans, pickup trucks, convertibles, coupes, vans, station wagons, sport-utility vehicles, and other types of transports.
- 10. The method of claim 8, further comprising offering the customer a club membership wherein dues are paid for selective access to the vehicle body inventory.
- 11. The method of claim 10, wherein the club membership enables the customer to order, reserve, rent, lease or exchange vehicle bodies on demand.
- 12. The method of claim 1, wherein the customer is an individual end user of the chassis and body.
- 13. The method of claim 1, wherein the customer is a corporate consumer of the chassis and body.
- 14. The method of claim 13, wherein the corporate consumer is an auto rental company.
- 15. A method of conducting a vehicle business transaction with a customer, comprising:
offering to grant possession of a vehicle chassis to the customer in a consumer transaction, the vehicle chassis having a body-attachment interface, at least three wheels, a suspension system, a controllable energy conversion system, a controllable steering system, and a controllable braking system; wherein the body-attachment interface comprises body connection components engageable with complementary connection components, the body connection components including at least one body-retention coupling and at least one control signal receiving electrical connector; wherein each of the energy conversion system, the steering system, and the braking system is operably connected to a control signal receiving electrical connector; wherein the body-connection components have a predetermined spatial relationship relative to one another configured to enable attachment of any of a variety of different types of bodies to the chassis; and offering to grant possession of a vehicle body to the customer, the vehicle body selected from an inventory of vehicle bodies each having a chassis-attachment interface comprising chassis-connection components complementary to the body-connection components, including at least one chassis-retention coupling and at least one control signal transmitting electrical connector, the chassis-connection components of each chassis-attachment interface having a complementary predetermined spatial relationship relative to one another that is compatible with the predetermined spatial relationship of the body-connection components such that each chassis connection component has a corresponding body connection component.
- 16. The method of claim 15, further comprising mating the vehicle chassis and the vehicle body.
- 17. The method of claim 15, further comprising purchasing, exchanging, disposing of, or storing a vehicle body of the customer.
- 18. The method of claim 15, further comprising maintaining said inventory.
- 19. The method of claim 15, wherein said inventory comprises a plurality of bodies having at least 3 different body styles of varying designs and body categories based upon aesthetics or functionality, each style of body being selectively attachable to the chassis.
- 20. The method of claim 14, wherein said inventory includes at least two body styles engageable with the chassis which are selected from the group consisting of sedans, pickup trucks, convertibles, coupes, vans, station wagons, sport-utility vehicles, and other types of transports.
- 21. The method of claim 18, further comprising offering the customer a club membership wherein dues are paid for selective access to the vehicle body inventory.
- 22. The method of claim 21, wherein the club membership enables the customer to order, reserve, rent, lease or exchange vehicle bodies on demand.
- 23. The method of claim 15, wherein the customer is an individual end user of the chassis and body.
- 24. The method of claim 15, wherein the customer is a corporate consumer of the chassis and body.
- 25. The method of claim 24, wherein the corporate consumer is an auto rental company.
- 26. The method of claim 15, further comprising attaching the selected body to the chassis without subjecting the body attachment interface or chassis attachment interface to value-added manufacturing operations.
- 27. The method of claim 26, further comprising granting possession of the chassis and body.
- 28. A method of conducting a vehicle business transaction with a customer, comprising:
granting possession of a vehicle chassis to the customer in a consumer transaction independently of a vehicle body, wherein the vehicle chassis includes:
a structural frame; a suspension system mounted with respect to the structural frame; at least three wheels rotatably mounted with respect to the suspension system; an energy conversion system mounted with respect to the structural frame, operably connected to at least one wheel, and controllable by wire; a by-wire steering system operably connected to at least one wheel; and a by-wire braking system mounted with respect to the frame and operably connected to at least one wheel; granting possession of a vehicle body to the customer in a consumer transaction for selective attachment to the vehicle chassis; and attaching the vehicle body to the chassis without performing significant value-added manufacturing operations on the body or chassis at an attachment interface between the body and chassis.
