Claims
- 1. A method of manufacturing automobiles, comprising:
manufacturing a plurality of vehicle chassis; and manufacturing a plurality of vehicle bodies having different body styles; each of said bodies and chassis conforming to a common interface system wherein mechanical and electrical attachment connection components of the bodies and chassis complement each other and are sufficiently aligned such that any one of the bodies may be mated to any one of the chassis without modification to either the chassis or the bodies.
- 2. The method of claim 1, wherein the bodies are of varying designs and body categories based upon aesthetics, style, or function.
- 3. The method of claim 2, wherein said body styles comprise at least two categories selected from the group consisting of sedans, pickup trucks, convertibles, coupes, vans, station wagons, sport-utility vehicles, and other types of transports.
- 4. The method of claim 3, wherein said body styles comprise at least three categories selected from said group.
- 5. The method of claim 4, wherein said body styles comprise at least four categories selected from said group.
- 6. A method of conducting a vehicle commercial transaction, comprising:
establishing a vehicle body interchangeability system whereby a single vehicle chassis design is attachable to any of a plurality of vehicle bodies having different body styles; maintaining an inventory of interchangeable vehicle bodies exhibiting various body styles with different appearance and functionality, each of said bodies being selectively attachable to any chassis embodying said single vehicle chassis design; and offering to grant possession of an interchangeable body from the inventory of interchangeable bodies to a customer.
- 7. The method of claim 6, wherein said step of offering to grant possession comprises selling, renting, leasing, or lending said interchangeable body from the inventory of interchangeable bodies to the customer.
- 8. The method of claim 7, further comprising purchasing, exchanging, disposing of, or storing an interchangeable vehicle body of the customer.
- 9. The method of claim 6, further comprising granting possession of said interchangeable body in exchange for the return of another interchangeable body for which possession was previously granted.
- 10. The method of claim 6, further comprising attaching said interchangeable body to a chassis of the customer.
- 11. The method of claim 6, wherein the customer is an end-user of the interchangeable body and a corresponding chassis.
- 12. The method of claim 6, wherein said single vehicle chassis design comprises:
a structural frame; a suspension system mounted with respect to the structural frame; at least three wheels rotatably mounted with respect to the suspension system; an energy conversion system mounted with respect to the structural frame, operably connected to at least one wheel, and controllable by wire; a by-wire braking system mounted with respect to the frame and operably connected to at least one wheel; and a computer operably connected to the energy conversion system and the by-wire braking system.
- 13. The method of claim 6, further comprising removing a body from a customer's chassis and attaching a different body to the chassis at a location selected by the customer, such as the customer's driveway.
- 14. The method of claim 6, further comprising removing a body from a customer's chassis and attaching a different body to the chassis at a specialized body exchange service station.
- 15. A method of manufacturing automobiles, comprising:
manufacturing a plurality of vehicle chassis; and manufacturing a plurality of vehicle bodies having at least three different body styles selected from the group consisting of sedans, pick-up trucks, convertibles, coupes, vans, station wagons and sport-utility vehicles; each of said bodies and chassis conforming to a common interface system wherein mechanical and electrical connection components of the bodies and chassis complement each other and are sufficiently aligned such that any one of the bodies may be mated to any one of the chassis without modification to either the chassis or the bodies.
- 16. The method of claim 15, further comprising selling, renting, leasing, or lending an interchangeable body from an inventory of interchangeable bodies to a customer.
- 17. The method of claim 16, further comprising purchasing, exchanging, disposing of, or storing an interchangeable vehicle body of the customer.
- 18. The method of claim 16, further comprising granting possession of said interchangeable body in exchange for the return of another interchangeable body for which possession was previously granted.
- 19. The method of claim 16, further comprising attaching said interchangeable body to a chassis of the customer.
- 20. The method of claim 19, wherein the customer is an end-user of the interchangeable body and a corresponding chassis.
- 21. The method of claim 15, wherein each of said plurality of vehicle chassis comprises:
a structural frame; a suspension system mounted with respect to the structural frame; at least three wheels rotatably mounted with respect to the suspension system; an energy conversion system mounted with respect to the structural frame, operably connected to at least one wheel, and controllable by wire; a by-wire braking system mounted with respect to the frame and operably connected to at least one wheel; and a computer operably connected to the energy conversion system and the by-wire braking system.
- 22. The method of claim 15, further comprising removing a body from a customer's chassis and attaching a different body to the customer's chassis at a location selected by the customer, such as the customer's driveway.
- 23. The method of claim 15, further comprising removing a body from a customer's chassis and attaching a different body to the customer's chassis at a specialized body exchange service station.
