- opening said door;
- placing a ground supported surface over said frame, said surface being engageable by said door;
- closing said door against said surface to lift said compactor off the ground so as to be supported by said surface;
- interposing wheels between said compactor and the ground; and
- opening said door to remove said surface so as to lower said compactor upon said wheels.
- 2. The method described in claim 1 wherein interposing of said wheels includes securing a separate wheel carriage to the compactor.
- 3. The method described in claim 1 wherein said interposing of wheels includes securing a wheeled carriage to one end of the compactor and said method further includes attaching a towing yoke to the other end of the compactor.
- 4. The method described in claim 1 wherein said placing of a surface for engagement by the door includes placing a frame straddling table over said frame for engagement of the table top surface by said door to lift the compactor off the ground.
- 5. The device described in claim 4 wherein subsequent to removal of said table said method further includes inverting said table to place the table top surface on said frame, and closing said door to maintain the table on said frame during transportation of the compactor.
- 6. A portable device for compacting vehicles, comprising:
- a frame having a bed;
- at least one door supported by said frame, said door being movable toward said bed for compaction of the vehicle thereagainst and said door being movable away from said bed; and
- a wheel assembly for supporting the frame above the ground for transportation of the device, said assembly including wheels movable with respect to the frame to allow the frame to be lowered to the ground for compaction of vehicles; and
- means engaging between the door and the ground and responsive to movement of the door toward the bed for elevation of the vehicle frame to permit movement of the wheels with respect to the frame.
- 7. The device described in claim 6 wherein said wheels can be removed from said frame to enable the compactor to rest on the ground.
- 8. A portable device for compacting vehicles, comprising:
- a frame having a bed;
- at least one door supported by said frame, said door being movable toward said bed for compaction of the vehicle thereagainst, and said door being movable away from said bed;
- a wheel assembly for supporting the frame above the ground for transportation of the device, said assembly including wheels movable with respect to the frame to allow the frame to be lowered to the ground for compaction of vehicles, said wheels removable from said frame to enable the compactor to rest on the ground;
- means aboard the compactor to raise the frame from the ground for attachment of the wheels, said raising means including a surface supported above the ground so as to straddle the bed, said surface being engageable by said door to lift and support the compactor above the ground.
- 9. The device described in claim 8 wherein said surface is the top of a table having a plurality of legs straddling said bed, said table enabling the compactor to be lifted and supported off the ground by closure of said door thereagainst.
- 10. The device described in claim 9 wherein said table has two pairs of legs, each pair disposed to one side of and straddling said bed.
