Claims
- 1. A headlamp lamp capsule comprising:
a base having a base axis of rotation and a mounting surface providing a circularly rotatable surface for mounting engagement; an envelope mounted on said base, the envelope defining an enclosed volume; a low beam filament positioned in the enclosed volume having the form of an extended helical coil, the helical low beam coil defining a low beam filament axis being co-axial with the base axis; a high beam filament positioned in the enclosed volume having the form of an extended helical coil, the helical high beam coil defining a high beam filament axis being parallel to and offset from the base axis; and electrical leads extending through the envelope to electrically couple with the filament ends for electrical conduction through the filaments, whereby the lamp capsule may be interchangeably mounted in a right hand reflector and a left hand reflector.
- 2. A headlamp lamp capsule comprising:
a base; an envelope mounted on said base, having a base end closest to the base, and a forward end, farthest from the base; a low beam filament positioned in the enclosed volume having the form of an extended helically coiled wire with wire ends extending from the coil, the helical low beam coil defining low beam filament axis being parallel with the base axis; a high beam filament positioned in the enclosed volume having the form of an extended helically coiled wire with wire ends extending from the coil, the helical high beam coil defining a high beam filament axis being parallel to and offset from the lamp axis; and a common lead, a low beam return lead, and a high beam return lead, the leads extending through the envelope to electrically couple with the filament ends for electrical conduction through the filaments, the common lead coupling to the base side wire end of the low beam coil and coupling to the base side wire end of the high beam coil; the low beam lead extending on the exterior side of the low beam coil to couple with the forward side wire end of the low beam coil; the high beam lead extending on the exterior side of the high beam coil to couple with the forward side wire end of the high beam coil.
- 3. The headlamp capsule in claim 2, wherein the low beam lead forms at least one acute angle with the axis, to thereby reflect light from the low beam coil in a direction with a downward component.
- 4. The headlamp capsule in claim 2, wherein the low beam lead has a forward most extension not greater than the forward most extension of the low beam coil plus the diameter of the low beam lead wire.
- 5. The headlamp capsule in claim 2, wherein the low beam has a forward coil wire end bent in the downward direction to couple with the low beam lead at a forward most point less than the forward most point of the low beam coil.
