Claims
- 1. In a vehicle having a frame and a plurality of wheel supports on said frame with each of said wheel supports including a spring and a shock absorber, and a wheel on each of said wheel supports, the improvement comprising selectively actuatable pulsating motor means coupled between said frame and at least one of said wheel supports for pulsating at least one of said wheels substantially only in a vertical direction.
- 2. In a vehicle as set forth in claim 1 wherein said selectively actuatable pulsating motor means is hydraulic.
- 3. In a vehicle as set forth in claim 1, including means for changing the elevation of at least another one of said wheels a greater amount than the change in elevation resulting from the change in elevation of said at least one of said wheels while said at least one of said wheels is being pulsated.
- 4. In a vehicle as set forth in claim 1 including means for selectively pulsating a plurality of said wheels in substantially only vertical directions simultaneously.
- 5. In a vehicle having a frame and a plurality of wheel supports on said frame with each of said wheel supports including a spring and a shock absorber, and a wheel on each of said wheel supports, the improvement comprising selectively actuatable pulsating motor means coupled between said body and each of said wheel supports for selectively pulsating a plurality of said wheels in vertical directions simultaneously, and means for changing the elevation of other of said wheels while said plurality of wheels are being pulsated.
- 6. In a vehicle comprising a body having a frame and a plurality of wheel supports on said frame with each of said wheel supports including a spring and a shock absorber, and a wheel on each of said wheel supports, the improvement comprising motor means for selectively substantially pulsating certain of said wheels in a vertical direction and simultaneously changing their elevation relative to said body a greater amount than their change in elevation resulting from being pulsated in said vertical direction.
- 7. In a vehicle having a frame and a plurality of wheel supports on said frame with each of said wheel supports including a spring and a shock absorber, and a wheel on each of said wheel supports, the improvement comprising selectively actuatable pulsating motor means coupled between said body and each of said wheel supports for selectively pulsating a plurality of said wheels in vertical directions simultaneously, and means for changing the elevation of at least one of other of said wheels a greater amount relative to said body than the change in elevation resulting from said plurality of wheels which are being pulsated.
- 8. In a vehicle having a frame and a plurality of wheel supports on said frame with each of said wheel supports including a spring and a shock absorber, and a wheel on each of said wheel supports, the improvement comprising motor means for selectively substantially pulsating at least one of said wheels in a vertical direction and simultaneously changing its elevation relative to said frame a greater amount than its change in elevation resulting from its being pulsated in said vertical direction.
- 9. In a vehicle having a frame with at least four wheel supports on said frame positioned with alternate wheel supports diagonally opposed to each other with each of said wheel supports including a spring and a shock absorber, and a wheel on each of said wheel supports, the improvement comprising a selectively actuatable motor coupled to at least one of said wheel supports for changing the elevation of said at least one wheel support to thereby change the elevation of said wheel thereon relative to said body without changing the elevation of other of said wheel supports relative to said body.
- 10. In a vehicle as set forth in claim 9 including a selectively actuatable motor coupled to each of a plurality of said wheel supports for selectively changing the elevation of each of said wheel supports individually relative to said body without changing the elevation of other of said wheel supports relative to said body.
- 11. In a vehicle as set forth in claim 10 including means for selectively pulsating certain of said wheels.
- 12. In a vehicle as set forth in claim 9 including means for selectively pulsating certain of said wheels.
- 13. A method of operating a vehicle having a frame with a plurality of wheel supports with each wheel support including a spring and a shock absorber, and a wheel mounted on each wheel support which may travel over varying types of terrain which impede the traction thereof, the improvement which comprises the steps of selectively pulsating at least one of said wheels to increase the traction thereof on said terrain, and selectively changing the elevation of at least one of said wheels with said change in elevation being by an amount which is greater than the amount of said pulsation.
- 14. A method as set forth in claim 13 wherein said plurality of wheels are being pulsated simultaneously.
- 15. A method as set forth in claim 13 wherein certain of said wheels have their elevations changed upwardly and certain of said wheels have their elevations changed downwardly.
- 16. A method as set forth in claim 13 wherein certain of said wheels have their elevations changed upwardly and certain of said wheels have their elevations changed downwardly.
- 17. A method of increasing traction of a land vehicle having a frame with a plurality of wheel supports on said frame with each wheel support having a spring and a shock absorber, and a wheel mounted on each of said wheel supports and wherein each of said wheels may travel over varying types of terrain which impede the traction thereof, the improvement comprising the steps of driving at least one of said plurality of wheels, and pulsating at least one of said plurality of wheels substantially only in a vertical direction to increase the traction thereof on said terrain which impedes the traction thereof.
- 18. A method as set forth in claim 17 including the step of changing the elevation of said at least one of said pulsating wheels, with said change in elevation being greater than the change in elevation thereof resulting from the pulsation applied thereto while it is being pulsated.
- 19. A method as set forth in claim 17 including the step of pulsating more than one of said wheels and changing the elevation of a plurality of said of said pulsating wheels more than the change in elevation thereof resulting from the pulsation applied thereto while they are being pulsated.
- 20. A method as set forth in claim 17 including the step of changing the elevation of at least one of said plurality of wheels without effecting a pulsation thereof with said change in elevation being greater than the amount of pulsation of said at least one of said wheels which is being pulsated.
- 21. A method of increasing the traction of a land vehicle having a frame with a plurality of wheel supports mounted on said frame with each wheel support including a spring and a shock absorber, and a wheel mounted on each wheel support, and wherein each wheel may travel over varying types of terrain which impede the traction of said wheels, the improvement comprising the steps of pulsating at least one of said wheels substantially only in a vertical direction to increase the traction thereof on said terrain which impedes the traction thereof, and maintaining at least one of said wheels in a nonpulsating condition.
- 22. A method as set forth in claim 21 including the step of changing the elevation of said at least one of said wheels which is being pulsated, said change in elevation being by an amount which is greater than the changes in elevation resulting from its pulsation.
- 23. A method as set forth in claim 21 including the step of changing the elevation of said at least said one wheel which is in a nonpulsating condition.
- 24. A method as set forth in claim 21 including the step of pulsating a plurality of said wheels to increase the traction thereof over said terrain.
- 25. A method as set forth in claim 24 including the step of maintaining a plurality of said wheels in a nonpulsating condition.
- 26. In a vehicle having a frame with at least four wheel supports on said frame positioned with alternate wheel supports diagonally opposed to each other and wherein each of said wheel supports includes a spring and a shock absorber, and a wheel on each of said wheel supports, the improvement comprising a selectively actuatable motor coupled to at least one of said wheel supports for changing the elevation of said at least one wheel support and said wheel thereon relative to said body to thereby shift the weight of said vehicle about a pair of wheels on certain of said diagonally disposed wheel supports.
- 27. In a vehicle as set forth in claim 26 including means for pulsating at least one of said wheels.
- 28. In a vehicle as set forth in claim 26 including a second selectively actuatable motor coupled to at least another of said wheel supports for changing the elevation of said another of said wheel supports and said wheel thereon relative to said body to thereby shift the weight of said vehicle about a pair of wheels on certain of said diagonally disposed wheel supports.
- 29. In a vehicle as set forth in claim 28 including means for pulsating at least one of said wheels.
- 30. In a vehicle as set forth in claim 26 including a selectively actuatable motor coupled to each of said wheel supports for selectively changing the elevation of each of said wheel supports and said wheels thereon to thereby shift the weight of said vehicle about a pair of wheels on said diagonally disposed wheel supports.
- 31. In a vehicle as set forth in claim 30 including means for pulsating at least one of said wheels.
