The present invention relates to beds with adjustable firmness. More specifically, the invention provides a ventilated adjustable firmness bed comprising a multilayered mattress having a plurality of layers with a plurality of apertures disposed thereon and a uniform mattress having a plurality of slots disposed thereon, wherein each mattress is of a different firmness.
Many individuals generate an increased amount of heat while sleeping due to the air trapped between the mattress and the body of the individual. Unfortunately, this excessive heat is uncomfortable and leads to people waking up throughout the night and generally suffering from poor sleep. Additionally, individuals suffering from back pain or poor spinal alignment often find traditional mattresses to be uncomfortable as they are unable to adjust the firmness of the mattress on a daily basis. Thus, an improved ventilated adjustable firmness bed that can adjust to a user's desired degree of firmness is desired.
In view of the foregoing disadvantages inherent in the known types of adjustable firmness beds now present in the known art, the present invention provides a ventilated adjustable firmness bed wherein the same can be utilized for providing convenience for the user when desiring to manually change a firmness level of the bed.
The present system comprises a multilayered mattress and a uniform mattress, wherein the multilayered mattress and uniform mattress each comprise a different firmness. A cover is configured to enclose both the multilayered mattress and the uniform mattress, with a fastener disposed thereon configured to secure the multilayered mattress and the uniform mattress within the cover. The multilayered mattress comprises one or more layers, each of a different firmness and extending the full width and length of the multilayered mattress such that each layer is disposed flush against cane another. Additionally, a plurality of apertures are disposed along the multilayered mattress. The uniform mattress comprises a plurality of slots disposed along an upper surface. In this way, a user is able to manually adjust the firmness of the bed through vertical alignment of the mattresses.
Although the characteristic features of this invention will be particularly pointed out in the claims, the invention itself and manner in which it may be made and used may be better understood after a review of the following description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings wherein like numeral annotations are provided throughout.
Reference is made herein to the attached drawings. Like reference numerals are used throughout the drawings to depict like or similar elements of the ventilated adjustable firmness mattress. The figures are intended for representative purposes only and should not be considered to be limiting in any respect.

The multilayered mattress 12 comprises one or more layers. In the embodiment illustrated in
The multilayered mattress 12 further comprises a plurality of apertures 15 disposed along a surface of the first layer 13. The plurality of apertures 15 are configured to increase airflow beneath a user sleeping atop the multilayered mattress 12, such that a temperature of the multilayered mattress 12 is decreased, thereby providing the user greater comfort while sleeping. In the illustrated embodiment, the plurality of apertures 15 extends in a grid like manner across the surface of the first layer 13. However, in other embodiments, the plurality of apertures 15 extends across only a portion of the surface of the first layer 13. In the illustrated embodiment, each aperture of the plurality of apertures 15 comprise an equivalent depth, such that each aperture extends fully therethrough the multilayered mattress 12 through both the first layer 13 and second layer 14. However, in other embodiments, the plurality of apertures 15 do not extend fully through the multilayered mattress 12.
The uniform mattress 16 comprises a single layer of uniform firmness throughout. The uniform mattress 16 further comprises a plurality of slots 17 disposed across an upper surface of the uniform mattress 16. In the illustrated embodiment, the plurality of slots 17 are disposed across the width of the uniform mattress 16, such that the depth of each individual slot 17 is uniform. The plurality of slots 17 are disposed along a length of the uniform mattress 16, wherein the length of the uniform mattress 16 is perpendicular to the width of the uniform mattress 16 and extends from a top end of the uniform mattress 16 to the bottom end. Although a width of each slot 17 is uniform, in the illustrated embodiment each depth of each slot 17 is different from another. The plurality of slots 17 are configured to increase comfort for the user and are distributed to provide additional support to the user when lying in bed. In the shown embodiment, the depth of the plurality of slots 17 increase along the length of the uniform mattress 16 to align with the high-pressure areas of a human body when laying on the bed, such as the hips and shoulders, such that the deepest slots 17 are configured to absorb the highest areas of pressure. In this way, the depth of the plurality of slots 17 form two tapered sections disposed to mirror one another across a lateral axis, wherein the lateral axis is parallel to the width of the uniform mattress 16.

The additional multilayered mattress 20 comprises a first layer 21, a second layer 22, and a third layer 23. The third layer 23 additionally comprises a plurality of apertures thereon that extend through the third layer 23, similar to the plurality of apertures disposed throughout multilayered mattress 12. Further, the additional uniform mattress 24 comprises a plurality of slots 25 disposed along a length of the additional uniform mattress 24. Thus, the additional multilayered mattress 20 and additional uniform mattress 24 are configured to mirror the composition of the multilayered mattress 12 and uniform mattress 16. In this way, two users sharing a bed can each configure their side of the bed to a desired degree of firmness by aligning each mattress in a preferred vertical orientation.

In operation, a user will vertically align each mattress by placing a first mattress, such as the uniform mattress, atop a bed frame and then placing a second mattress, such as the multilayered mattress, flush against the uniform mattress to create a desired degree of firmness depending on the alignment of each mattress.
It is therefore submitted that the instant invention has been shown and described in various embodiments. It is recognized, however, that departures may be made within the scope of the invention and that obvious modifications will occur to a person skilled in the art. With respect to the above description then, it is to be realized that the optimum dimensional relationships for the parts of the invention, to include variations in size, materials, shape, form, function and manner of operation, assembly and use, are deemed readily apparent and obvious to one skilled in the art, and all equivalent relationships to those illustrated in the drawings and described in the specification are intended to be encompassed by the present invention.
Therefore, the foregoing is considered as illustrative only of the principles of the invention. Further, since numerous modifications and changes will readily occur to those skilled in the art, it is not desired to limit the invention to the exact construction and operation shown and described, and accordingly, all suitable modifications and equivalents may be resorted to, falling within the scope of the invention.
