The disclosure relates to ventilation devices and more particularly pertains to a new ventillation device for remotely opening and closing a soffit vent.
An embodiment of the disclosure meets the needs presented above by generally comprising a building that has a soffit. A vent is coupled to the soffit and the vent is positionable between and open position and a closed position. The vent allows air to pass through the soffit when the vent is in the open position. The vent restricts a flow of the air through the soffit when the vent is in the closed position. The vent prevents objects from passing through the soffit when the vent is in the closed position. A control is coupled to the vent such that the control urges the vent between the open position and the closed position. The control is in electrical communication with an extrinsic electronic device thereby facilitating the vent to be remotely positioned between the open position and the closed position.

There are additional features of the disclosure that will be described hereinafter and which will form the subject matter of the claims appended hereto.

The vent 16 comprises a frame 18 and a plurality of louvers 20. The frame 18 has a pair of lateral members 22 that is each coupled to and extending between a pair of longitudinal members 24. The lateral members 22 are spaced from each other such that the frame 18 has a rectangular shape. The louvers 20 are rotatably coupled to the frame 18 and the louvers 20 are coupled between each of the lateral members 22.
The louvers 20 are spaced apart from each other and distributed between the longitudinal members 24. Each of the louvers 20 is selectively rotated about an axis extending through the lateral members 22. Each of the louvers 20 is spaced apart from each other when the vent 16 is the open position thereby facilitating air to flow between the louvers 20 and through the frame 18. The louvers 20 lie flat against each other when the vent 16 is in the closed position thereby restricting the flow of air between the louvers 20.
A control 26 is coupled to the vent 16 such that the control 26 urges the vent 16 between the open position and the closed position. The control 26 is in electrical communication with an extrinsic electronic device 28 thereby facilitating the vent 16 to be remotely positioned between the open position and the closed position. The extrinsic electronic device 28 may comprise a Smart Phone or the like.
The control 26 comprises a control circuit 30 that is positioned within the frame 18. A receiver 32 is positioned within the frame 18 and the receiver 32 is electrically coupled to the control circuit 30. The receiver 32 is in electrical communication with the extrinsic electronic device 28 thereby facilitating the control circuit 30 to receive an open command and a close command from the extrinsic electronic device 28. The receiver 32 may comprise a radio frequency receiver or the like and the receiver may utilize a WPAN signal.
A rod 34 is positioned within one of the lateral members 22. The rod 34 is mechanically coupled to each of the louvers 20 such that the rod 34 selectively rotates the louvers 20. A motor 36 is positioned within the frame 18 and the motor 36 is electrically coupled to the control circuit 30. The motor 36 rotates in a first direction when the control circuit 30 receives the open command. The motor 36 rotates in a second direction when the control circuit 30 receives the close command. The motor 36 may comprise an electrical motor or the like.
A pivot 38 is movably coupled between the motor 36 and the rod 34 such that the motor 36 urges the rod 34 to selectively rotate the louvers 20. Thus, the vent 16 is positioned between the closed position and the open position. A power supply 40 is positioned within the frame 18 and the power supply 40 is electrically coupled to the control circuit 30. The power supply 40 comprises a cord 42 extending away from the frame 18. The cord 42 may be electrically coupled to a power source 44 and the power source 44 may comprise an electrical outlet or the like. The vent 16 may be one of a plurality of vents 16.
In use, The vent 16 is installed within the soffit 14 and the vent is installed in the gable 15. The extrinsic electronic device 28 is manipulated to transmit a selected one of the open command and the close command. The motor 36 urges the rod 34 to rotate the louvers 22 such that the vent 16 allows the flow of air through the soffit 14 when the open command is transmitted. The motor 36 urges the rod 34 to rotate the louvers 22 such that the vent 16 restricts the flow of air through the soffit 14 when the close command is transmitted.
With respect to the above description then, it is to be realized that the optimum dimensional relationships for the parts of an embodiment enabled by the disclosure, to include variations in size, materials, shape, form, function and manner of operation, system and use, are deemed readily apparent and obvious to one skilled in the art, and all equivalent relationships to those illustrated in the drawings and described in the specification are intended to be encompassed by an embodiment of the disclosure.
