Claims
- 1. A closure comprising:
- a base including means for mating with a finish of a container, said base having a top, an upper wall extending across the top of said base, a cover hingedly connected to said base, said cover including an upper wall, an orifice in said cover, a patch covering over said orifice, said patch including means for sealing said orifice and for permitting escape of gas at predetermined elevated pressures.
- 2. The closure according to claim 1 wherein said cover upper wall includes a top, and the bottom of said patch is adhered to the top of said cover upper wall by adhering means.
- 3. The closure according to claim 1 wherein said adhering means is selected from the group consisting of chemical adhesive and hot melt.
- 4. The closure of claim 1 wherein said cover upper wall includes a plug depending therefrom and said base includes a well and said plug and well are capable of fitting one within the other when the cover is closed.
- 5. The closure according to claim 4 wherein said orifice is in communication with said plug and said well when said cover is closed.
- 6. The closure according to claim 5 wherein said well is capable of receiving said plug in a friction fit when said cover is closed.
- 7. The closure according to claim 1 wherein said cover includes means biasing it toward two positions, a closed position and an open position.
- 8. The closure of claim 1 wherein the orifice has a top edge and includes one or more V-shaped channels at its top edge.
- 9. The closure of claim 1 wherein the patch is welded to the cover.
- 10. The closure of claim 1 wherein the adhering means comprises a mixture of wax and an ethylene vinyl acetate copolymer.
- 11. The closure of claim 1 wherein the adhering means comprises a heat seal coating.
- 12. A container comprising a finish, closure comprising a base, said base including a top and means for sealingly mating with the finish of the container, wherein said closure further includes an upper wall extending across the top of said base, a cover hingedly connected to said base, said cover including an upper wall, an orifice in said cover, and a patch covering said orifice, said patch including means for sealing said orifice and for permitting escape of gas at predetermined elevated pressures.
- 13. The container of claim 12 containing a bleach selected from the group consisting of chlorine bleaches and oxygen bleaches.
- 14. The container of claim 12 containing a bleach.
- 15. A closure comprising:
- a base including means, for mating with a finish of a container, said base having a top, an upper wall extending across the top of said base, a cover hingedly connected to said base, said cover including an upper wall, an orifice in said cover, a patch covering said orifice, said patch including means for sealing said orifice and for permitting escape of gas at predetermined elevated pressures, said cover upper wall including a plug depending therefrom and said base including a well and said plug and well being capable of fitting one within the other when the cover is closed, said orifice being in communication with said plug and said well when said cover is closed.
- 16. The closure according to claim 15 wherein said well is capable of receiving said plug in a friction fit when said cover is closed.
- 17. A closure comprising:
- a base having a top and including means for mating with a finish of a container, an upper wall extending across the top of said base, a cover hingedly connected to said base, said cover including an upper wall, an orifice in said cover, a patch covering over said orifice, said patch including means for sealing said orifice and for permitting escape of gas at predetermined elevated pressures said orifice having a top edge and including one or more V-shaped channels at its top edge.
