Claims
- 1. A method for feeding blanks to a container-forming unit having a wrapping station, the method comprising:advancing a continuous web to the wrapping sation which includes a wrapping mandrel which is attached to a moving structure that transfers the wrapping mandrel between different processing stations of the container-forming unit; pushing the web towards the mandrel; cutting the web into container forming blanks; and sucking the blanks onto the wrapping mandrel.
- 2. The method as described in claim 1, wherein the web is advanced to the wrapping station from above.
- 3. The method as described in claim 1 or 2, wherein at least one side margin of the web is heated in the same direction with the feeding of the blank web upstream the cutting point.
- 4. The method as described in claim 3, the method further comprising advancing the web by steps corresponding to the length of the blank in the direction of advancement by a conveyor located upstream the cutting point, and cutting the web into at least one blank from the end of the web after each advancing movement of the web.
- 5. The method as described in claim 1, wherein after a blank has been cut, it is pushed, by one straight transfer motion directed against the plane of the blank into contact with the wrapping mandrel.
- 6. The method as described in claim 5, wherein the end of the web is held by suction during the cutting of the web into the blank.
- 7. The method as described in claim 6, wherein the blank is cut with a cutting stroke directed against the surface of the web.
- 8. An apparatus to feed blanks to a wrapping station in a container-forming unit, the apparatus comprising:a feed device which feeds a continuous web to the wrapping station which includes a wrapping mandrel mounted on a moving structure which transfers the wrapping mandrel between different stations of the container forming unit; a pusher plate which moves back and forth and which pushes a blank detached from the web towards the wrapping mandrel; and a cutter which cuts the blank from the web and which blank is mounted on the wrapping mandrel.
- 9. The apparatus as described in claim 8, wherein a track along which the continuous web advances downward to the wrapping station from above.
- 10. The apparatus as described in claim 9, wherein along the track of the web at least at one side margin, the apparatus further comprises a heating device to heat the surface of the web.
- 11. The apparatus as described in claim 9, wherein the apparatus further comprises at least two opposed heating devices upstream the cutting point, the heating devices on opposite sides of the web are arranged to heat up opposite surfaces of the web.
- 12. The apparatus as described in claim 11, wherein the area heated by the heating devices is equal to at least the length of a side seal of a container to be manufactured from the blank.
- 13. The apparatus as described in claim 12, wherein the apparatus further comprises a conveyor which feeds the web by steps corresponding to the length of a blank.
- 14. The apparatus as described in claim 13, wherein the conveyor comprises members that are in contact with the surfaces on both sides of the web.
- 15. The apparatus as described in claim 14, wherein upstream the conveyor, the apparatus further comprises at least one feeding device which feeds the web distances longer than the length of one blank.
- 16. The apparatus as described in claim 15, wherein the cutter cuts the web with a stroke directed against the web surface.
- 17. The apparatus as described in claim 8, wherein the pusher plate is provided with suction.
