Claims
- 1. A clutch driven disc assembly comprising:
- a hub having an axis of rotation;
- a driven disc rotatably mounted with respect to the hub for rotation about the axis;
- reinforcing plates disposed over each side of the driven disc and fixed to the driven disc for unitary rotation therewith;
- cover plates disposed over each of the reinforcing plates and fixed to the hub for unitary rotation therewith and defining an axial gap between the cover plates and the driven disc;
- a plurality of compression coil springs functionally disposed between the hub and the driven disc;
- an annular first friction plate disposed on a first side of the driven disc and including means for engaging the hub for unitary rotation therewith;
- an annular second friction plate disposed on the first side of the driven disc and including means for engaging one of the reinforcing plates for unitary rotation therewith and slidable in an axial direction and adjacent the first friction plate; and
- an annular friction spring functionally disposed between the friction plates and one of the cover plate on the first side and the driven disc plate wherein the annular friction spring is preloaded between the friction plates and the one of the cover plate on the first side and the first side of the driven disc producing frictional engagement between the first and second friction plates.
- 2. A clutch driven disc as claimed in claim 1, wherein:
- annular first and second friction plates are disposed on a second side of the driven disc and an annular friction spring is functionally disposed between the friction plates and one of the cover plate on the second side and the second side of the driven disc producing frictional engagement between the first and second spring plates, wherein the preload from the annular friction springs on the first side and the second side of the driven disc biases the driven disc to a position midway between the cover plates.
- 3. A clutch driven disc assembly comprising:
- a hub having an axis of rotation;
- a driven disc rotatably mounted with respect to the hub for rotation about the axis;
- a plurality of compression coil springs functionally disposed between the hub and the driven disc;
- an annular first friction plate disposed on a first side of the hub and having a plurality of radially extending engagement features on an inner diameter of the first friction plate rotatably connecting the first friction plate to the hub for unitary rotation with the hub and the first friction plate being slidable in an axial direction;
- an annular second friction plate disposed on the first side of the hub and having a plurality of radially extending engagement features on an outer diameter of the second friction plate rotatably connecting the second friction plate for unitary rotation with the driven disc and the second friction plate being slidable in an axial direction and adjacent the first friction plate; and
- an annular friction spring functionally disposed between the friction plates and one of the driven disc and the hub wherein the annular friction spring is preloaded between the friction plates and the one of the driven disc and the hub on the first side of the hub and resultantly producing frictional engagement between the first and second friction plates.
- 4. A clutch driven disc as claimed in claim 3, wherein:
- the hub has a radially extending flange over which the friction plates are slidably disposed and the flange also defines engagement features slidably receiving the engagement features of the first friction plate,
- a reinforcing plate is fixed to the driven disc and is configured to slidably receive the friction plates and defines an engagement feature slidably receiving the engagement features of the second friction plate, and
- a cover plate is disposed over the reinforcing plate and the flange and is fixed to the hub for unitary rotation therewith and defines an axial gap between the cover plate and the hub, with the friction plates being disposed within the axial gap on a first side of the hub.
