Claims
- 1. In a composing apparatus for selecting segments from image source material stored in at least one storage medium and for denoting serially connected sequences of said segments, said apparatus comprising:
- a pictorial display means,
- an operator control means, and
- a composing control means responsive to said operator control means for controlling said storage medium and said pictorial display means,
- an action scrolling apparatus comprising:
- means responsive to said operator control means for selectively displaying segment frames on said pictorial display means,
- said operator control means having an operator controlled, manual rotation means for varying the segment frame displayed on said display means,
- said rotation means having a plurality of operating positions, said displaying means being responsive to each successive position of said rotation means for displaying a next successive frame, the direction of said next frame with respect to the present displayed frame corresponding to the direction of rotation of said rotation means,
- whereby, through back and forth rotation of said rotation means, action scrolling of a predetermined number of said segment frames can be achieved such that an operator may better determine the boundary of said selected segment.
- 2. The action scrolling apparatus of claim 1 further wherein said rotation means comprises;
- a detent mechanism having detent positions spaced each twelve degrees of rotational movement, and
- said control responsive means has means responsive to each next detent of movement of said rotation means for varying the frame displayed on said display means by one video frame.
- 3. A composing method for providing action scrolling in an apparatus for selecting segments from image source material stored in at least one storage medium and for denoting serially connected sequences of said segments, said method comprising the steps of:
- displayed segment frames on a pictorial display screen,
- varying the segment frame displayed on said display screen by using an operator controlled manual rotation element, and
- rotating said element back and forth for providing an action scrolling of a predetermined number of the segment frames on the display screen.
