Claims
- 1. A video conferencing apparatus, comprising:
a Universal Serial Bus (USB) enabled digital video camera to output an encoded information stream, the USB-enabled digital video camera including an encoder to compress image data received by the USB-enabled digital video camera during a real-time video conference to produce the encoded information stream in which no frame of the encoded information stream depends on a previous frame by performing intra frame encoding; and a computer system, coupled to the USB-enabled digital video camera via a USB, to decode the encoded information stream and to transmit the image data to one or more other computer systems as part of a video conferencing data stream.
- 2. The video conferencing apparatus of claim 1, wherein the video conferencing data stream is produced using an H.261 encoder.
- 3. The video conferencing apparatus of claim 1, wherein the video conferencing data stream is produced using an H.263 encoder.
- 4. The video conferencing apparatus of claim 1, wherein the image data includes YUV-12 images.
- 5. The video conferencing apparatus of claim 1, wherein the image data includes Full CIF images.
- 6. The video conferencing apparatus of claim 1, wherein the image data includes QCIF images.
- 7. A video conferencing system, comprising:
a Universal Serial Bus (USB) enabled digital video camera having a first storage medium and a USB, the USB-enabled digital video camera to output an encoded information stream, the USB-enabled digital video camera including an encoder to compress image data received by the USB-enabled digital video camera during a real-time video conference to produce the encoded information stream in which no frame of the encoded information stream depends on a previous frame by performing intra frame encoding; and a processor coupled to a second storage medium and to the USB-enabled digital video camera via the USB, the processor to decode the encoded information stream and to transmit the image data to one or more computer systems having one or more processors as part of a video conferencing data stream.
- 8. The video conferencing of claim 7, wherein the video conferencing data stream is produced using an H.261 encoder.
- 9. The video conferencing of claim 7, wherein the video conferencing data stream is produced using an H.263 encoder.
- 10. The video conferencing of claim 7, wherein the image data includes YUV-12 images.
- 11. The video conferencing of claim 7, wherein the image data includes Full CIF images.
- 12. The video conferencing of claim 7, wherein the image data includes QCIF images.
- 13. A method, comprising:
receiving, at a digital video camera, image data to be transmitted as part of a real-time video conference among a plurality of interconnected computer systems; an encoder of the digital video camera encoding the image data during the real-time video conference to produce an encoded information stream in which no frame of the encoded information stream depends on a previous frame by performing intra frame encoding; transmitting the encoded information stream to a computer system of the plurality of interconnected computer systems via a Universal Serial Bus (USB); decoding the encoded information stream during the real-time video conference by a decoder of the computer system; and transmitting the image data as part of a video conferencing data stream from the computer system to one or more other computer systems of the plurality of interconnected computer systems.
- 14. The method of claim 13, wherein the video conference comprises a POTS video conference.
- 15. The method of claim 13, wherein the video conference comprises a Local Area Network (LAN) video conference.
- 16. The method of claim 13, wherein the video conference comprises an Integrated Services Digital Network (ISDN) video conference.
