Claims
- 1. A magnetic recording apparatus for recording signals to a tape cassette including a magnetic tape and a memory for reproduction by at least one of a plurality of magnetic reproducing units having different types of mechanical decks for reproducing said magnetic tape, each type of magnetic reproducing unit characterized by a reproducing head mechanically arranged with respect to said magnetic tape such that a distance between a beginning of said magnetic tape and a reading position where said reproducing head first reads said magnetic tape is predetermined, wherein said distance between the beginning of said magnetic tape and the reading position of a first type of magnetic reproducing unit is a minimum distance and said distance between the beginning of said magnetic tape and the reading position of a second type of magnetic reproducing unit is a maximum distance, said apparatus comprising:
- a controller for controlling a writing operation to write to said magnetic tape and said memory in said tape cassette;
- a rotary recording head, responsive to said controller, for writing the signals on said magnetic tape;
- a tape transport unit, responsive to said controller, for transporting the magnetic tape past the rotary recording head in a recording direction;
- a recording signal supply unit for supplying reproduction control servo signals for recording by the rotary recording head on said magnetic tape from a first position on the magnetic tape spaced from the beginning of said magnetic tape by said minimum distance such that the tape transport unit is able to establish a stable tape running state thereat, to a second position at said maximum distance from the beginning of said magnetic tape, wherein recording the reproduction control servo signals for the distance in the recording direction along the magnetic tape from the first position to the second position enables a tape transport of any of the types of magnetic reproducing units to establish a stable running state based on the reproduction control servo signals when said tape transport has transported the magnetic tape from the first position to the second position thereof;
- wherein the recording signal supply unit is operative to supply at least one of audio signals and video signals to the rotary recording head for recording along the magnetic tape following the second position thereof in the recording direction while preventing the recording of the audio or video signals by the rotary head at any location on the magnetic tape preceding the first position such that any of the types of magnetic reproducing units property reproduce said at least one of said audio and video signals; and
- wherein said controller controls said writing operation to write the second position in said memory of said tape cassette to indicate the beginning of said at least one of said audio and video signals recorded on the magnetic tape.
- 2. The magnetic recording apparatus of claim 1, wherein the distance of the first position on the tape from the beginning position thereof is selected as equal to at least a maximum distance among a plurality of distances from the tape start position to recording of a first track produced in the operation of a magnetic tape recording apparatus.
- 3. The magnetic recording apparatus of claim 1, wherein the recording signal supply unit is operative to prevent the supply of said at least one of audio signals and video signals to the rotary recording head when the head is positioned with respect to the tape for recording between the first and second positions thereof.
- 4. A magnetic recording and reproducing apparatus for recording and reproducing information signals to a tape cassette including a magnetic tape and a memory for reproduction by at least one of a plurality of magnetic reproducing units having different types of mechanical decks for reproducing said magnetic tape, each type of magnetic reproducing unit characterized by a reproducing head mechanically arranged with respect to said magnetic tape such that a distance between a beginning of said magnetic tape and a reading position where said reproducing head first reads said magnetic tape is predetermined, wherein said distance between the beginning of said magnetic tape and the reading position of a first type of magnetic reproducing unit is a minimum distance and said distance between the beginning of said magnetic tape and the reading position of a second type of magnetic reproducing unit is a maximum distance, said apparatus, said apparatus comprising:
- a controller for controlling a writing operation to write to said magnetic tape and said memory in said tape cassette;
- a rotary head, responsive to said controller, for recording and reproducing the signals on said magnetic tape;
- a tape transport unit, responsive to said controller, for transporting the magnetic tape past the rotary head in a recording direction;
- a recording signal supply unit for supplying reproduction control servo signals for recording by the rotary recording head on said magnetic tape from a first position on the magnetic tape spaced from the beginning of said magnetic tape by said minimum distance such that the tape transport unit is able to establish a stable tape running state thereat, to a second position at said maximum distance from the beginning of said magnetic tape;
- wherein said rotary head reproduces the reproduction control servo signals recorded on the magnetic tape;
- wherein recording the reproduction control servo signals for the distance in the recording direction along the magnetic tape from the first position to the second position enables the tape transport of any of the types of magnetic tape reproducing units to establish a stable running state based on the reproduction control servo signals reproduced by said rotary head when the tape transport unit transports the magnetic tape from the first position to the second position thereof;
- wherein the recording signal supply unit is operative to supply at least one of audio signals and video signals to the rotary head for recording along the magnetic tape following the second position thereof in the recording direction while preventing the recording of the audio or video signals by the rotary head at any location on the magnetic tape preceding the first position such that any of the types of magnetic reproducing units properly reproduce said at least one of said audio and video signals;
- wherein said controller controls said writing operation to write the second position in said memory of said tape cassette; and
- wherein said controller controls said tape transport unit to advance to said second position stored in said memory of said tape cassette before controlling said rotary head to reproduce said audio and video signals recorded on the magnetic tape.
- 5. The magnetic recording and reproducing apparatus of claim 4, wherein said plurality of magnetic reproducing units of different types have a loading capability for loading the tape cassette; wherein said controller controls said rotary head to reproduce said magnetic tape upon loading and determines whether said reading position of said rotary head corresponds to the second position in said memory of said tape cassette; wherein said controller controls said tape transport unit to transport the magnetic tape by a difference between the maximum distance and the minimum distance when said controller determines that said reading position does not correspond with the second position stored in the memory of the tape cassette.
- 6. The magnetic recording and reproducing apparatus of claim 4, wherein said plurality of magnetic reproducing units of different types includes an 8-mm VTR, a VHS-system and a Beta-system VTR.
- 7. The magnetic recording and reproducing apparatus of claim 4, wherein said controller controls the writing operation to write a recording mode including standard and long play modes in the memory of the tape cassette.
- 8. The magnetic recording and reproducing apparatus of claim 4, wherein said magnetic tape is comprised of a transparent non-recordable portion at the beginning of the magnetic tape followed by a recordable portion; wherein said minimum distance corresponds to a position substantially after the transparent portion and said maximum distance corresponds to a position substantially after said minimum distance.
- 9. The magnetic recording and reproducing apparatus of claim 4, wherein said controller controls the writing operation to write absolute addresses corresponding to the position along the magnetic tape in the memory of the tape cassette; wherein said controller controls the write operation to write the absolute address of the second position in the memory of the tape cassette.
- 10. The magnetic recording and reproducing apparatus of claim 4, wherein the controller controls the write operation to write to the magnetic tape in a track format; wherein the distance in terms of tracks between the minimum distance and maximum distance is 8,890 tracks.
- 11. The magnetic recording and reproducing apparatus of claim 4, wherein said magnetic tape comprises a transparent non-recordable portion at the beginning of the magnetic tape followed by a recordable portion including in a recording direction, a disabled length L corresponding to the length between the end of the transparent portion and said reading position where said reproducing head first reads the magnetic tape, a recording servo actuating area R having a length sufficient that the tape transport of any of the types of magnetic reproducing units is enabled to establish the stable running state for recording the audio or video signals and an invalidated recording area S having a length sufficient to permit the rotary head to achieve stable operation based on the reproduction control servo signals upon reproduction of the audio or video signals.
