Claims
- 1. An apparatus for holding a video display screen onto which a projector projects an image at a diverging angle .theta., the apparatus being in combination with the screen, comprising:
- said screen having an edge with a groove therein;
- an elongated holding bracket having a uniform cross-sectional shape along substantially the entire length of the bracket, the cross-sectional shape having a thicker first end and a smaller second end to generally converge at an angle of about .theta., and further having a mounting surface adapted for connecting the bracket to a support structure, the cross-sectional shape having an exterior side and interior side, a distal portion of the second end having a flange that extends inward, the flange extending a distance selected to minimize the blocking of the image projected on the screen during use and extending along a length of the elongated bracket, the bracket's length being substantially greater than its width with the width being measured between the first and second ends, at least a portion of the flange extending into the groove.
- 2. An apparatus as defined in claim 1, wherein the interior surface contains an anti-reflective coating to reduce the incident light reflected toward the second end.
- 3. An apparatus as defined in claim 1, wherein the interior surface contains substantially parallel grooves along the length of the bracket to reflect incident light away from the second end.
- 4. An apparatus as defined in claim 3, wherein the mounting surface comprises a flange extending from the first end and away from the second end.
- 5. An apparatus as defined in claim 2, further comprising an aperture sized to receive a threaded fastener with threads having a pitch, the aperture including at least one of an elongated slot in the interior surface extending the length of the bracket and having opposing walls that contain a plurality of grooves spaced apart by said pitch, or an elongated opening extending along a length of the bracket and sized to engage the threaded fastener.
- 6. An apparatus as defined in claim 2, wherein the screen has a plurality of edges with said groove extending along the length of each edge, the screen having an interior side facing the projector with a notched portion along the length of the grooved edges, the notch and groove cooperating with the flange to form a tongue-in-groove connection to hold the grooved edges of the screen along a plurality of edges of the screen.
- 7. An apparatus as defined in claim 2, wherein the screen has a plurality of edges with said groove extending along the length of each edge, the groove cooperating with the flange to form a tongue-in-groove connection to hold the grooved edges of the screen along a plurality of edges of the screen.
- 8. An apparatus for holding a video display screen onto which an image is projected by a projector, the screen having a plurality of edges, comprising:
- a plurality of elongated holding brackets having a uniform cross-sectional shape having a thicker first end and a smaller second end, at least some of the brackets having a mounting surface for connecting to a support structure during use of the bracket, the cross-sectional shape having an exterior side and an interior side that converge at an angle of about 10 degrees or less and selected to avoid blocking the image from the projector when the brackets are connected to the screen, each bracket having fastening means other than two parallel flanges extending from a common side of the bracket, said fastening means being connected to the second end and adapted to engage an adjacent edge of the screen when the bracket is in use to hold the screen, the bracket's length being substantially greater than its width with the width being measured between the first and second ends.
- 9. An apparatus as defined in claim 8, wherein the interior surface contains substantially parallel grooves along the length of the bracket, the grooves being orientated to reflect incident light away from the screen when the bracket is used to hold the screen.
- 10. An apparatus as defined in claim 9, wherein the mounting surface comprises a flange extending from the first end and away from the second end.
- 11. An apparatus as defined in claim 10, further comprising means for receiving a threaded fastener to connect two brackets together.
- 12. An apparatus as defined in claim 10, further comprising means for receiving a threaded fastener for connecting said fastening means to at least one of said brackets.
- 13. An apparatus for holding a video display screen that projects an image on to the screen at an angle of about .theta., the screen having a groove in a plurality of edges of the screen, comprising:
- an elongated holding bracket having a substantially uniform cross-sectional shape along substantially the entire length of the bracket, the cross-sectional shape having a closed but hollow triangular shape having a thicker first end and a smaller second end to form a generally triangular shape with three joined sides and further having a mounting surface for connecting the bracket to a support structure, the cross-sectional shape having an exterior side and an interior side with the interior side being inclined at an angle .theta. of about ten degrees or less, the second end terminating in a support flange extending from the second end away from the first end, the first end having means for cooperating with said groove in said screen to hold the screen during use of the bracket, the bracket's length being substantially greater than its width with the width being measured between the first and second ends.
- 14. An apparatus as defined in claim 13, wherein the interior surface contains substantially parallel grooves along the length of the bracket to reflect incident light away from the second end.
- 15. An apparatus as defined in claim 14, wherein the generally triangular shape comprises a right triangle with at least a portion of the interior surface forming the hypotenuse and the first end being the short side of the triangle.
- 16. An apparatus as defined in claim 15, wherein the mounting surface comprises a flange extending from the first end and away from the second end.
- 17. An apparatus as defined in claim 15, further comprising an aperture sized to receive a threaded fastener with threads having a pitch, the aperture including at least one of an elongated slot in the interior surface extending the length of the bracket and having opposing walls that contain a plurality of grooves spaced apart by said pitch, or a hollow aperture extending the length of the bracket and sized to engage the threaded fastener.
- 18. An apparatus as defined in claim 13, wherein the support flange has a distal end with a tongue extending inward and adapted to engage the grooves.
- 19. An apparatus for holding a video display screen having a plurality of edges and defining a periphery, the image being projected onto the screen at an angle, the screen having an interior surface and the apparatus being in combination with the screen, comprising:
- said screen; and
- a plurality of elongated holding brackets having a substantially uniform cross-sectional shape that has a thicker first end and a smaller second end to converge toward the second end, at least some of the brackets further having a mounting surface for connecting to a support structure during use of the brackets, the cross-sectional shape having an exterior side and an interior side with the interior side having an anti-reflective surface to reduce the reflection of light on the screen, the interior side being inclined at an angle selected to avoid blocking the projected image, each bracket having a distal end at the second end to hold an adjacent edge of the screen from movement in at least one direction, the distal end abutting an interior surface of the screen along a length of an edge of the screen so the exterior surface of the bracket is flush with the edge of the screen, and tape extending over the edge of the screen and over a portion of the exterior surface of the bracket and fastened by an adhesive to hold the screen to the distal end, the brackets being placed around the periphery of the screen to hold the screen in position.
- 20. An apparatus as defined in claim 19, wherein the distal end extends substantially parallel to one side of the bracket and cooperates with a notch in the adjacent edge of the screen to hold the screen, the notch having a portion which opens onto the interior surface of the screen.
- 21. An apparatus as defined in claim 19, wherein the interior surface contains substantially parallel grooves along the length of the bracket to reflect incident light away from the screen.
- 22. An apparatus as defined in claim 19, wherein the mounting surface comprises a flange extending from the first end and away from the second end to engage a notch in an edge of the screen, at least a portion of the notch opening onto the interior surface of the screen.
- 23. An apparatus for holding a video display screen onto which a projector projects an image at a diverging angle .theta., comprising:
- an elongated holding bracket having a substantially uniform cross-sectional shape along substantially the entire length of the bracket, the cross-sectional shape having a thicker first end and a smaller second end to generally converge at an angle of about .theta., and further having a mounting surface for connecting the bracket to a support structure, the cross-sectional shape having an exterior side and interior side, a distal portion of the second end having a flange that extends inward from the interior side and away from the exterior side, the flange extending a distance selected to minimize the blocking of the image projected on the screen during use of the apparatus, wherein the interior surface contains substantially parallel grooves along the length of the bracket to reflect incident light away from the second end and wherein the mounting surface comprises a flange extending from the first end and away from the second end.
- 24. An apparatus for holding a video display screen onto which an image is projected by a projector, the screen having a plurality of edges, comprising:
- a plurality of elongated holding brackets having a substantially uniform cross-sectional shape having a thicker fast end and a smaller second end, at least some of the brackets having a mounting surface for connecting to a support structure when in use, the cross-sectional shape having an exterior side and an interior side that converge at an angle selected to avoid blocking the image from the projector when the brackets are connected to the screen, each bracket having fastening means connected to the second end to engage an adjacent edge of the screen when the bracket is in use to hold the screen, wherein the interior surface contains substantially parallel grooves along the length of the bracket, the grooves being orientated to reflect incident light away from the screen when the bracket is used to hold the screen, and wherein the mounting surface comprises a flange extending from the first end and away from the second end.
- 25. An apparatus as defined in claim 24, further comprising means for receiving a threaded fastener to connect two brackets together.
- 26. An apparatus as defined in claim 24, further comprising means for receiving a threaded fastener for connecting said fastening means to at least one of said brackets.
- 27. An apparatus for holding a video display screen that projects an image on to the screen at an angle of about .theta., comprising:
- an elongated holding bracket having a substantially uniform cross-sectional shape along substantially the entire length of the bracket, the cross-sectional shape having a thicker first end and a smaller second end to form a generally triangular shape and further having a mounting surface for connecting the bracket to a support structure, the cross-sectional shape having an exterior side and an interior side with the interior side being inclined at an angle of about .theta. or less, the second end terminating in a support flange extending from the second end away from the first end, wherein the interior surface contains substantially parallel grooves along the length of the bracket to reflect incident light away from the second end, wherein the generally triangular shape comprises a right triangle with at least a portion of the interior surface forming the hypotenuse and the first end being the short side of the triangle, and wherein the mounting surface comprises a flange extending from the first end and away from the second end.
- 28. An apparatus holding a video display screen having a plurality of edges and defining a periphery, the image being projected on to the screen at an angle, comprising:
- the video display screen, the screen having an interior surface;
- a plurality of elongated holding brackets having a substantially uniform cross-sectional shape that has a thicker first end and smaller a second end to converge toward the second end, at least some of the brackets further having a mounting surface for connecting to a support structure, the cross-sectional shape having an exterior side and an interior side with the interior side having an anti-reflective surface to reduce the reflection of light on the screen during use of the bracket, the interior side being inclined at an angle selected to avoid blocking the projected image, each bracket having a distal end at the second end adapted to hold an adjacent edge of the screen from movement in at least one direction when the bracket is connected to the screen, the brackets being placed around the periphery of the screen to hold the screen in position during use of the brackets, and wherein the distal end of the brackets are fastened to the screen by an adhesive and tape extending over the edges of the screen and an exterior side of the distal end of the bracket which abuts the screen to adhesively fasten the distal end of the bracket to the screen.
- 29. An apparatus for holding a video display screen onto which an image is projected by a projector, the apparatus being in combination with the screen comprising,
- a video display screen having a plurality of edges;
- at least two elongated holding brackets each of which extends along and is fastened to a different one of the plurality of edges, each of the brackets having a cross-sectional shape with a thicker first end and a smaller second end along a width of the brackets that converge at an angle selected to avoid blocking the image from the projector during use of the display screen and with the second end closer to the screen than the first end, the brackets having an anti-reflective surface on an interior surface of the bracket to avoid reflection onto the screen, the brackets leaving a mounting surface for connecting to a support structure when in use, each of the brackets having a center that is slightly bent toward the screen relative to ends of the bracket.
- 30. An apparatus as defined in claim 29, wherein the at least two brackets have a mounting flange extending from the second end toward the edges of the screen and in the plane of the edges of the screen, and wherein at least two of the plurality of edges of the screen have slots located to correspond to the flanges, and wherein the mounting flanges extend into the slots to hold the screen.
- 31. An apparatus as defined in claim 30, wherein the edges of the screen having slots further have a notch along the edges containing the slots and opening onto an interior surface of the screen with the slot extending from the notch away from the bracket and toward the screen, and with an abutting portion of the bracket being placed in the notch.
- 32. An apparatus as defined in claim 29, wherein at least two edges of the screen have notches in the edges of the screen corresponding to the location of the at least two brackets, and wherein the at least two brackets have a support flange extending from the second end in a direction away from the first end, with a distal end of the support flange abutting the notch in the edge of the screen, and with an adhesive further fastening the edge of the screen to the support flange.
- 33. An apparatus as defined in claim 29, wherein the at least two brackets have a support flange extending from the second end and away from the first end, the support flange terminating in a T section such that two opposing mounting flanges extend in opposing directions from an end of the support flange, the mounting flanges engaging correspondingly located slots in the corresponding edges of the screen.
- 34. An apparatus as defined in claim 33, wherein the screen further has a notch along the edges containing the slots so an abutting portion of the support flange can be placed in the notch.
- 35. An apparatus for holding a video display screen onto which a projector projects an image at a diverging angle .theta., the apparatus being in combination with the screen comprising:
- a video display screen having a plurality of edges;
- at least two elongated holding brackets each of which extends along a different one of the plurality of edges, each of the brackets having an interior side that does not extend into the diverging angle .theta., the interior side having an anti-reflective surface, the brackets having a mounting surface adapted for connecting to a support structure when in use, each of the brackets having means other than a C-clip for fastening an end of the bracket to the screen to hold the screen.
- 36. An apparatus as defined in claim 35, wherein the means comprises a mounting flange on at least two brackets extending in a plane containing the edges of the screen and wherein at least two of the plurality of edges of the screen have slots located to correspond to the flanges, and wherein the mounting flanges extend into recesses in the edges of the screen to hold the screen.
- 37. An apparatus as defined in claim 36, wherein the edges of the screen have slots and further have a notch along the edges containing the slots and opening onto the interior surface of the screen with the slot extending from the notch away from the bracket and toward an interior of the screen, with an abutting portion of the bracket being placed in the notch.
- 38. An apparatus as defined in claim 35, wherein the means comprise at least two brackets each having a support flange extending toward an adjacent edge of the screen, the support flange terminating in a T section such that two opposing mounting flanges extend in opposing directions from an end of the support flange, the mounting flanges engaging correspondingly located slots in the corresponding edges of the screen.
- 39. An apparatus as defined in claim 35, wherein the screen further has slots in a plurality of the edges and a notch along the edges containing the slots so an abutting portion of the support flange can be placed in the notch and slots.
- 40. An apparatus as defined in claim 35, wherein said means comprises a strip of tape extending over an edge of the screen and over a portion of the exterior side of the mounting surface of the bracket with an adhesive between the tape and the screen and bracket to adhere the second end of the bracket to the edge of the screen.
- 41. An apparatus as defined in claim 35, wherein the means comprises adhesive and tape.
