Claims
- 1. A method for playing back a selected one of a plurality of discrete audio message units included in a block of composite digital audio data recorded on a record medium as a sequential series of said plurality of discrete audio message units, wherein said plurality of discrete audio message units are discretely associated with a single discrete block of video data also recorded on the record medium, said method comprising the steps of:
- employing a player means for recovering said block of composite digital audio data from the record medium;
- storing said recovered block of composite digital audio data within an addressable digital data storage means operatively associated with said player means;
- generating a coded message select command signal identifying the selected one of said plurality of audio message units;
- employing means operatively associated with said storage means and responsive to said coded message select command signal for retrieving said selected audio message unit; and,
- employing said player means to play back the retrieved said selected audio message unit.
- 2. The method as set forth in claim 1, further comprising the steps of:
- initiating a stop-motion of operation of said player means; and,
- employing said player means, in said stop-motion mode of operation, to playback said single block of video data in conjunction with said step of employing said player means to play back the retrieved said selected audio message unit.
- 3. The method as set forth in claim 1, wherein said recovered block of composite digital audio data is stored at predetermined storage locations within said storage means.
- 4. The method as set forth in claim 3, wherein said predetermined storage locations are sequentially addressed.
