Claims
- 1. A window assembly for use on a guard of a rotary cutting tool, the guard having an aperture formed therein, the window assembly comprising:
a viewing window for coupling adjacent the aperture in the guard, the viewing window being sufficiently larger than the aperture, whereby when a first portion of the viewing window covers the aperture, a second portion of the viewing window is accessible for cleaning; and means for coupling the viewing window to the guard, wherein the means for coupling permits the viewing window to be moved between a first position, where the first portion of the viewing window covers the aperture, and a second position, where the second portion of the viewing window covers the aperture.
- 2. The window assembly of claim 1, wherein the means for coupling the viewing window to the guard includes a plurality of tabs, wherein the tabs form a lateral slot and wherein the viewing window is slidably coupled with the guard by being slidably received in the lateral slot.
- 3. The window assembly of claim 2, wherein the viewing widow is generally rectangular in shape.
- 4. The window assembly of claim 3, wherein the aperture is generally rectangular in shape.
- 5. The window assembly of claim 1, wherein the means for coupling the viewing window to the guard includes a pivot pin and wherein the viewing window is pivotally coupled with the guard via the pivot pin.
- 6. The window assembly of claim 5, wherein the viewing widow is generally triangular in shape.
- 7. The window assembly of claim 6, wherein the aperture is generally triangular in shape.
- 8. A viewing window for covering an aperture in a hand-held circular saw guard, the viewing window comprising:
an optically transmissive member adapted to be movably coupled with the guard and to cover the aperture; and means for coupling the member to the guard, the means for coupling permitting movement of the member between a first position and a second position to allow the cleaning of a portion of the member without substantially uncovering the aperture during movement.
- 9. The viewing window of claim 8, wherein the member is further adapted to rotate about an axis substantially lying in the plane of the saw blade and extending radially from the center of the saw blade.
- 10. The viewing window of claim 9, wherein the member is larger in size than the aperture and the means for coupling includes a pivot arrangement coupling the member with the guard to allow the member to pivot over the aperture between the first position, wherein a first portion of the member covers the aperture, and the second position, wherein a second portion of the member covers the aperture and wherein the first portion may be cleaned.
- 11. The viewing window of claim 10, wherein the member is triangular in shape.
- 12. The viewing window of claim 8, wherein the member is further adapted to rotate about an axis substantially lying in the plane of the saw blade and perpendicular to the radius of the saw blade.
- 13. The viewing window of claim 12, wherein the member further includes an elongated, planar element having at least two planar ribs substantially disposed longitudinally on, and perpendicular to, the element and wherein the means for coupling includes a pivot pin extending from each end of the member along its center longitudinal axis, each of the pins being received in pin guides on the guard so that the member can rotate in the aperture between the first position, wherein a first portion of the member covers the aperture, and the second position, wherein a second portion of the member covers the aperture and wherein the first portion may be cleaned.
- 14. The viewing window of claim 8, wherein the member is further adapted to slide between the first position and the second position.
- 15. The viewing window of claim 14, wherein the member is larger in size than the aperture and wherein means for coupling includes tabs secured to the guard, the tabs forming a slot that receives the member and through which the member can slide between the first position and the second position.
- 16. The viewing window of claim 15, wherein the member is rectangular in shape.
