Claims
- 1. A composition for supplementing the diet, the composition comprising greater than 100 mg docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) or pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof, a vitamin or pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof, and a mineral or pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof.
- 2. The composition of claim 1 wherein the DHA is provided in a carrier, the carrier comprising the DHA in a concentration of from about 40% to about 100% by weight.
- 3. The composition of claim 2 wherein the carrier is marinol oil.
- 4. The composition of claim 1 wherein the DHA is present in a range of from greater than 100 mg to about 600 mg.
- 5. The composition of claim 1 wherein the DHA is present in a range of from about 180 mg to about 500 mg.
- 6. The composition of claim 1 wherein the vitamin is selected from the group consisting of Vitamin A, Vitamin B, Vitamin C, Vitamin D, Vitamin E, niacinamide, folic acid, and combinations thereof.
- 7. The composition of claim 6 wherein the Vitamin B is selected from the group consisting of Vitamins B1, B2, B6, B12, and combinations thereof.
- 8. The composition of claim 1 wherein the mineral is selected from the group consisting of calcium, zinc, iron, copper, magnesium, and combinations thereof.
- 9. The composition of claim 1 surrounded by a gelatin capsule.
- 10. The composition of claim 9 wherein the gelatin capsule is a soft shell gelatin capsule.
- 11. The composition of claim 1 wherein the mineral is iron.
- 12. The composition of claim 11 wherein the iron is in a form selected from the group consisting of ferrous fumarate, iron-amino acid chelate, and a combination thereof.
- 13. The composition of claim 1 wherein the DHA is provided in a once-a-day dose, the composition being formulated into a single unitary form to be ingested once a day.
- 14. A method of supplementing the nutrition of a pregnant female comprising the step of administering to the pregnant female the composition of claim 1.
- 15. A method of supplementing the nutrition of a lactating female comprising the step of administering to the lactating female the composition of claim 1.
- 16. A method of supplementing the nutrition of a mammal comprising the step of administering to the mammal the composition of claim 1.
- 17. A method of reducing the level of triglycerides in the blood of a mammal comprising the step of administering to the mammal the composition of claim 1.
- 18. A method of promoting the development of the brain of a fetus in a pregnant female comprising the step of administering to the pregnant female the composition of claim 1.
- 19. A method of promoting the development of the brain of an infant nursing from a lactating female comprising the step of administering to the lactating female the composition of claim 1.
- 20. A method of inhibiting or treating a disorder in a mammal selected from the group consisting of a cardiovascular disorder, a central nervous system disorder, an inflammatory disorder, an attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder, and combinations thereof, comprising the step of administering to the mammal in need thereof the composition of claim 1.
- 21. The method of claim 20 wherein the inflammatory disorder is selected from the group consisting of rheumatoid arthritis, inflammatory bowel disorder, and a combination thereof.
- 22. The method of claim 20 wherein the central nervous system disorder is selected from the group consisting of Alzheimer's disease, dementia and a combination thereof.
- 23. A composition for supplementing the diet, the composition comprising:
a marinol oil component comprising greater than 100 mg of docosahexaenoic acid (DHA); a vitamin or pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof selected from the group consisting of Vitamin A, Vitamin B, Vitamin C, Vitamin D3, Vitamin E, niacinamide, folic acid and combinations thereof; and a mineral or pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof selected from the group consisting of calcium, zinc, iron, copper, magnesium and combinations thereof.
- 24. The composition of claim 23 wherein the marinol oil component comprises DHA in a concentration of at least about 40% by weight.
- 25. The composition of claim 23 wherein the marinol oil component comprises DHA in a range of from greater than 100 mg to about 600 mg.
- 26. The composition of claim 23 wherein the marinol oil component comprises DHA in a range of about 180 mg to about 500 mg.
- 27. The composition of claim 23 wherein the Vitamin B is selected from the group consisting of Vitamins B1, B2, B6, B12 and combinations thereof.
- 28. The composition of claim 23 wherein the DHA is provided in a once-a-day dose, the composition being formulated into a single unitary form to be ingested once a day.
- 29. The composition of claim 23 wherein the mineral is iron.
- 30. The composition of claim 29 wherein the iron is in a form selected from the group consisting of ferrous fumarate, iron-amino acid chelate, and a combination thereof.
- 31. A method of supplementing the nutrition of a pregnant female comprising the step of administering to the pregnant female the composition of claim 23.
- 32. A method of supplementing the nutrition of a lactating female comprising the step of administering to the lactating female the composition of claim 23.
- 33. A method of supplementing the nutrition of a mammal comprising the step of administering to the mammal the composition of claim 23.
- 34. A method of reducing the level of triglycerides in the blood of a mammal comprising the step of administering to the mammal the composition of claim 23.
- 35. A method of promoting the development of the brain of a fetus in a pregnant female comprising the step of administering to the pregnant female the composition of claim 23.
- 36. A method of promoting the development of the brain of an infant nursing from a lactating female comprising the step of administering to the lactating female the composition of claim 23.
- 37. A method of inhibiting or treating a disorder in a mammal selected from the group consisting of a cardiovascular disorder, a central nervous system disorder, an inflammatory disorder, an attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder, and combinations thereof, comprising the step of administering to the mammal in need thereof the composition of claim 23.
- 38. The method of claim 37 wherein the central nervous system disorder is selected from the group consisting of Alzheimer's disease, dementia and a combination thereof.
- 39. The method of claim 37 wherein the inflammatory disorder is selected from the group consisting of rheumatoid arthritis, inflammatory bowel disorder, and a combination thereof.
- 40. A composition for supplementing the diet, the composition comprising:
a marinol oil component, said component comprising docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) in a concentration of about 60% by weight and including greater than 100 mg DHA; ascorbic acid; iron in a form selected from the group consisting of ferrous fumarate, iron-amino acid chelate, and a combination thereof; betacarotene; Vitamin B selected from the group consisting of Vitamin B1, Vitamin B2, Vitamin B6, Vitamin B12 and combinations thereof; Vitamin D3; Vitamin E; niacinamide; folic acid; and a second mineral or pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof.
- 41. The composition of claim 40 wherein the second mineral is selected from the group consisting of zinc oxide, calcium carbonate, cupric oxide and combinations thereof.
- 42. The composition of claim 40 wherein the DHA is provided in a once-a-day dose, the composition being formulated into a single unitary form to be ingested once a day.
- 43. The composition of claim 40 wherein the marinol oil component comprises DHA in a range of about 180 mg to about 500 mg.
- 44. A method of supplementing the nutrition of a pregnant female comprising the step of administering to the pregnant female the composition of claim 40.
- 45. A method of supplementing the nutrition of a lactating female comprising the step of administering to the lactating female the composition of claim 40.
- 46. A method of supplementing the nutrition of a mammal comprising the step of administering to the mammal the composition of claim 40.
- 47. A method of reducing the level of triglycerides in the blood of a mammal comprising the step of administering to the mammal the composition of claim 40.
- 48. A method of promoting the development of the brain of a fetus of a pregnant female comprising the step of administering to the pregnant female the composition of claim 40.
- 49. A method of promoting the development of the brain of an infant nursing from a lactating female comprising the step of administering to the lactating female the composition of claim 40.
- 50. A method of inhibiting or treating a disorder in a mammal selected from the group consisting of a cardiovascular disorder, a central nervous system disorder, an inflammatory disorder, an attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder, and combinations thereof, comprising the step of administering to the mammal in need thereof the composition of claim 40.
- 51. The method of claim 50 wherein the central nervous system disorder is selected from the group consisting of Alzheimer's disease, dementia and a combination thereof.
- 52. The method of claim 50 wherein the inflammatory disorder is selected from the group consisting of rheumatoid arthritis, inflammatory bowel disorder, and a combination thereof.
- 53. A method of supplementing the nutrition of a pregnant or lactating female comprising the step of administering to the female a composition comprising greater than100 mg of docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) or pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof, a vitamin or pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof, and a mineral or pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof.
- 54. The method of claim 53 wherein the composition administered comprises DHA in a range of greater than 100 mg to about 600 mg.
- 55. The method of claim 53 wherein the composition administered comprises DHA in a range of about 180 mg to about 500 mg.
- 56. The method of claim 53 further comprising the step of formulating the composition as one of a pill, tablet and capsule prior to administration.
- 57. The method of claim 53 wherein the vitamin is selected from the group consisting of Vitamin A, Vitamin B, Vitamin C, Vitamin D3, Vitamin E, niacinamide, folic acid, and combinations thereof.
- 58. The method of claim 53 wherein the mineral is selected from the group consisting of calcium, zinc, iron, copper, magnesium, and combinations thereof.
- 59. The method of claim 53 wherein the DHA is provided in a carrier, the carrier comprising the DHA in a concentration of at least about 40% by weight.
- 60. The method of claim 53 further comprising the step of formulating the composition into a single unitary dosage form to be ingested once a day, the form being one of a tablet and a capsule.
- 61. The method of claim 53 wherein the composition comprises:
the following vitamins:
ascorbic acid; betacarotene; Vitamin B selected from the group consisting of Vitamin B1, Vitamin B2, Vitamin B6, Vitamin B12 and combinations thereof; Vitamin D3; Vitamin E; Niacinamide; folic acid; and the following minerals:
iron in a form selected from the group consisting of ferrous fumarate, iron-amino acid chelate, and a combination thereof, and at least one other mineral or pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof selected from the group consisting of calcium, zinc, copper, magnesium, and combinations thereof.
- 62. The method of claim 61 further comprising the step of formulating the composition prior to administration into a single unitary dosage form to be ingested once a day, the form being one of a pill, a tablet and a capsule.
