Claims
- 1. In a system wherein a voice signal is split into a plurality of frequency sub-bands and the order of the frequency sub-bands is rearranged according to a randomized signal, a synchronization circuit comprising:
- a cyclically operable sequential stepping circuit for generating said randomized signal;
- means for rapidly advancing said stepping circuit a predetermined number of steps at a rate greater than the data rate prior to initial transmission of voice data in order to generate a randomized digital prime word at the end of said rapid advancement; and
- means for transmitting said prime word to a remote receiving station for comparison with a stored randomized digital word to provide synchronization between the stations, said rapid advancement of said stepping circuit enabling automatic compensation of the received prime word for transmission path delay and permitting error correction of the received prime word at the receiving station.
- 2. The synchronization circuit of claim 1 and further comprising:
- means for transmitting a predetermined series of digital bits prior to transmission of said randomized prime word.
- 3. The synchronization circuit of claim 1 wherein said stepping circuit is rapidly advanced six steps prior to transmission of voice data in order to generate said prime word.
- 4. In a voice scrambler system including a first station wherein a voice is split into a plurality of frequency sub-bands and the order of the frequency sub-bands is randomly rearranged and transmitted to a second station for decoding, a synchronization system comprising:
- cyclically operable sequential stepping circuits located at each said first and second stations for generating randomized digital signals;
- means for rapidly advancing the stepping circuit at said first station a predetermined number of steps at a rate greater than the date rate prior to transmission of coded voice data to said second station, the output of said stepping circuit after said rapid advancement being a randomized digital prime word, said rapid advancement of said stepping circuit enabling automatic compensation for transmission path delay;
- means for transmitting said prime word to said second station;
- means at said second station for comparing said prime word with the output of the stepping circuit at said second station; and
- means for advancing the stepping circuit at said second station until the output thereof corresponds within a predetermined tolerance with said prime word or until a predetermined number of comparisons have been made.
- 5. The synchronization system of claim 4 wherein the stepping circuit at said first station is advanced six steps prior to transmission of coded voice data.
- 6. The synchronization system of claim 5 wherein the output of the stepping circuit at said second station is converted to said prime word after a predetermined number of comparisons have been made between said prime word and the output of the stepping circuit.
