Claims
- 1. In an infusion pump operative to pump a fluid through a tube, an automatic tube loader for loading said tube and said tube having a slide clamp associated therewith said automatic tube loader comprising means for releasably retaining said slide clamp operative to selectably open and close said slide clamp.
- 2. The invention according to claim 1 and said means for releasably retaining said slide clamp comprising clam means for drawing said slide clamp into said pump and crank means for actuating said clam means.
- 3. The invention according to claim 1 and said means for releasably retaining said slide clamp further comprising locating pin means in combination with said slide clamp being asymetric, for preferentially fixing a preferred orientation of said slide clamp.
- 4. The invention according to claim 2 and said means for releasably retaining said slide clamp further comprising visor means for preventing removal of said slide clamp from said pump.
- 5. The invention according to claim 3 and a platen associated with said means for releasably retaining said slide clamp, said platen further comprising a tube stop thereon.
- 6. The invention according to claim 5 and a pawl operative to retain said tube against said tube stop.
- 7. The invention according to claim 6 and said pawl and tube stop operative to hold said tube fixed such that said slide clamp may execute a motion relative to said tube.
- 8. The invention according to claim 7 and said clam means being further operative to move said slide clamp relative to said tube so as to selectably close and open said slide clamp to fluid flow therethrough.
- 9. The invention according to claim 1 and means for sensing the position of said slide clamp to determine whether said slide clamp is open or closed.
- 10. The invention according to claim 9 and said means for sensing the position of said slide clamp being further operative to sense the presence and absence of said slide clamp.
- 11. The invention according to claim 10 and said means for sensing the position of said slide clamp comprising a first optical sensor and a second optical sensor.
- 12. The invention according to claim 11 and wherein said slide clamp rides in a groove, said first optical sensor and said second optical sensor being resident along said groove.
- 13. The invention according to claim 11 and said first optical sensor and said second optical sensor each comprising a light source, a transmitting light pipe in photonic communication with said light source and a receiving light pipe in photonic communication with said transmitting light pipe and operative to intermittently transmit light to an associated photocell.
- 14. The invention according to claim 13 and said transmitting light pipe and said receiving light pipe each comprehending a respective internal reflecting surface.
- 15. The invention according to claim 13 and a groove adapted to receive a slide clamp and said groove having a first side and a second side wherein said transmitting light pipe is resident on said first side and said receiving light pipe is resident on said second side.
- 16. A method for determining the position of a slide clamp in an infusion pump, the infusion pump having a tube associated therewith and a slide clamp associated with said tube, said method comprising the following steps:
- 1. wherein said tube has a location, fixing said location;
- 2. wherein said infusion pump has a plurality of sensors adapted to receive a slide clamp into association therewith, emplacing said slide clamp amongst said sensors;
- 3. wherein said sensors have a high state associated with the absence of said slide clamp and a low state associated with the presence of said slide clamp, noting the states of said plurality of sensors;
- 4. wherein said plurality of sensors are arranged in specific positions, noting the positions of the various sensors;
- 5. correlating the state of each of said sensors with the position of said sensor;
- 6. correlating said state and position information into indicia of said position of said slide clamp.
