Claims
- 1. A flowmeter that provides a flowmeter output indicative of a mass flow rate of a fluid as a function of a measured fluid temperature or a measured fluid pressure, the flowmeter comprising:a flowtube; a first sensor disposed in the flowtube having a volumetric output that varies as a function of a volumetric flow rate of the fluid; a second sensor positioned at a first location in the flowtube to measure a parameter of the fluid at the first location; a circuit receiving a parameter value from the second sensor and the volumetric output from the first sensor, the circuit providing the flowmeter output as a function of the parameter value and the volumetric output; and wherein the circuit is further configured to apply a correction to the parameter value and to yield an adjusted value representative of the parameter of the fluid at a second location, the adjusted value being used by the circuit to calculate the flowmeter output.
- 2. The flowmeter of claim 1 wherein the correction is a function of a temperature recovery factor of the fluid.
- 3. The flowmeter of claim 2 wherein the temperature recovery factor is given by: Δ T=r V22Cswhere ΔT is a temperature correction, V is the fluid velocity, Cs is the specific heat at constant pressure and r is a recovery factor.
- 4. The flowmeter of claim 1 wherein the correction is a function of a dynamic pressure head of the fluid.
- 5. A flowmeter that provides a flowmeter output indicative of a mass flow rate of a fluid as a function of a measured fluid temperature and a measured fluid pressure, the flowmeter comprising:a flowtube; a volumetric flow sensor disposed in the flowtube, the volumetric flow sensor having a volumetric output that varies as a function of a volumetric flow rate of the fluid; a temperature sensor positioned at a first temperature location in the flowtube to measure a temperature of the fluid at the first temperature location; a pressure sensor positioned at a first pressure location in the flowtube to measure a pressure of the fluid at the first pressure location; a circuit receiving a temperature value from the temperature sensor and a pressure value from the pressure sensor and providing the flowmeter output as a function of the temperature value and the pressure value; and wherein the circuit is further configured to apply a correction to the temperature value and to yield an adjusted temperature value representative of a temperature of the fluid at a second temperature location, and to apply a correction to the pressure value thereby yielding an adjusted pressure value representative of a pressure of the fluid at a second pressure location, and wherein the adjusted temperature value and the adjusted pressure value being used by the circuit to calculate the flowmeter output.
- 6. A method of measuring a flow rate of a fluid, comprising:detecting volumetric flow of the fluid and providing a volumetric output; measuring a parameter of the fluid at a first location and providing a parameter value indicative of the measured parameter; applying a correction to the parameter value thereby yielding an adjusted value representative of the parameter of the fluid at a second location; and calculating a flowmeter output as a function of the adjusted value.
- 7. The method of claim 6 wherein applying the correction includes applying a function of a temperature recovery factor of the fluid.
- 8. The method of claim 7 wherein applying a function of the temperature recovery factor includes applying a function given by: Δ T=r V22Cswhere ΔT is a temperature correction, V is the fluid velocity, Cs is the specific heat at constant pressure and r is a recovery factor.
- 9. The method of claim 6 wherein applying the correction includes applying a function of a dynamic pressure head of the fluid.
- 10. A method of measuring a flow rate of a fluid, comprising:detecting volumetric flow and providing a volumetric output; measuring a temperature of the fluid at a first temperature location and providing a temperature value indicative of the temperature of the fluid; measuring a pressure of the fluid at a first pressure location and providing a pressure value indicative of the pressure of the fluid; applying a first correction to the temperature value to yield an adjusted temperature value representative of the temperature of the fluid at a second temperature location; applying a second correction to the pressure value to yield an adjusted pressure value representative of the pressure of the fluid at a second pressure location; and calculating a flowmeter output as a function of the adjusted temperature value and the adjusted pressure value.
- 11. A flowmeter that provides a flowmeter output indicative of a mass flow rate of a fluid, the flowmeter comprising:a flowtube; a first sensor disposed in the flowtube having a volumetric output that varies as a function of a volumetric flow rate of the fluid; a second sensor positioned at a first location in the flowtube to measure a parameter of the fluid at the first location; a circuit for receiving a parameter value from the second sensor and providing the flowmeter output as a function of the parameter value, and including means for applying a correction to the parameter value to yield an adjusted value representative of the parameter of the fluid at a second location, the adjusted value being used by the circuit to calculate the flowmeter output.
- 12. A method of operating a flowmeter that measures a flow rate of a fluid, comprising:measuring a parameter of the fluid at a first location; and applying a correction to the parameter value thereby yielding an adjusted value representative of the parameter of the fluid at a second location; and calculating a flowmeter output as a function of the adjusted value.
- 13. The method of claim 12 and comprising:measuring a volumetric flow; and wherein calculating the flowmeter output includes calculating the flowmeter output as a function of the volumetric flow.
- 14. The method of claim 12 wherein the correction is a function of a temperature recovery factor of the fluid.
- 15. The method of claim 14 wherein the temperature recovery factor is given by: Δ T=r V22Cs(11)where ΔT is a temperature correction, V is the fluid velocity, Cs is the specific heat at constant pressure and r is a recovery factor.
