Claims
- 1. A vulcanizable composition comprising bromobutyl rubber, at least one amino acid selected from the group consisting of arginine, lysine, hydroxylysine, ornithine, cystine, asparagine, glutamine and citrulline, and at least one organic peroxide vulcanizing agent, with the proviso that said composition does not contain any zinc oxide or lead oxide.
- 2. The composition of claim 1 which contains, per part by weight of the amino acid component, no more than 10 parts by weight of organic peroxide, the total amount of the amino acid and the vulcanizing agent being 0.06-50 parts by weight per 100 parts by weight of the bromobutyl rubber.
- 3. The composition of claim 1 in which the peroxide is selected from the group consisting of di-t-butyl peroxide, t-butyl cumyl peroxide, dicumyl peroxide, .alpha.,.alpha.'-bis(t-butylperoxy)p-di-isopropylbenzene, 2,5-dimethyl-2,5-di(t-butylperoxy)hexane, 2,5-dimethyl-2,5-di(t-butylperoxy)hexyne-3, benzoyl peroxide, 2,4-dichloro benzoyl peroxide, t-butyl peroxy acetate, t-butylperoxy-2-ethylhexanoate, t-butylperoxy benzoate, 2,5-dimethyl-2,5-di(benzoyl peroxy)hexane, t-butyl peroxy isopropyl carbonate, parachlorobenzoyl peroxide, and 1,1-di-tert. butyl peroxy-3,3,5-trimethyl cyclohexane.
- 4. The composition of claim 1 wherein the only vulcanizing agents present in the composition are the amino acid component and the organic peroxide component.
- 5. The composition of claim 1 which does not contain any toxic acid acceptor.
- 6. The composition of claim 1 wherein the amino acid component is restricted to at least one amino acid selected from the group consisting of arginine, lysine, hydroxylysine, ornithine, asparagine, glutamine and citrulline.
- 7. A method of vulcanizing bromobutyl rubber which comprises incorporating a vulcanizing amount, in total, of (1) at least one amino acid selected from the group consisting of arginine, lysine, hydroxylysine, ornithine, cystine, asparagine, glutamine and citrulline and (2) at least one organic peroxide vulcanizing agent, into bromobutyl rubber, and subjecting the resultant mixture to vulcanization, with the proviso that the mixture subjected to vulcanization does not contain any zinc oxide or lead oxide.
- 8. The method of claim 7 wherein vulcanization is carried out at a temperature of 140.degree.-180.degree. C. and a pressure of 180-210 Kg/cm.sup.2.
- 9. The method of claim 7 wherein a total of 0.06-50 parts by weight of the amino acid component and the organic peroxide component is incorporated into 100 parts by weight of the bromobutyl rubber, the amount of the organic peroxide being no more than 10 parts by weight per part by weight of the amino acid component.
- 10. The method of claim 7 wherein the only vulcanizing agents present in the mixture subjected to vulcanization are the amino acid component and the organic peroxide component.
- 11. The method of claim 7 wherein the mixture subjected to vulcanization does not contain any toxic acid acceptor.
- 12. The method of claim 7 wherein the amino acid component is restricted to at least one amino acid selected from the group consisting of arginine, lysine, hydroxylysine, ornithine, asparagine, glutamine and citrulline.
