Claims
- 1. A wall partition unit having a frame of strips mitered at its corners, each said frame strip having a uniform cross-section and a pair of parallel sides, the improvement comprising:
- 1) a pair of longitudinally complementary angled corner blocks having divergent legs and fitting between said parallel sides of adjacent mitered ends of said frame strips, each said corner block having a groove longitudinal of each leg complementary to the groove in the leg of the other block,
- 2) means on said legs to insure proper alignment of said pair of blocks in said corner, and
- 3) self-tapping screws wedged into said complementary grooves in each leg of said corner blocks to clamp said blocks to and between the adjacent parallel sides of each frame strip at each mitered corner.
- 2. A unit according to claim 1 wherein said corner blocks have roughened surfaces for frictionally engaging the inside surfaces of said parallel sides of said frame strips.
- 3. A unit according to claim 1 wherein said complementary corner blocks are identical.
- 4. A unit according to claim 1 wherein said means for insuring proper alignment comprises an interfitting projection and cavity in each leg of said pair of blocks.
- 5. A partition wall composed of units, at least one unit having a tubular frame strip of uniform cross-section and mitered at its corner, the improvement comprising:
- 1) a pair of complementary corner blocks having divergent legs, which legs fit into the tubular ends of said frame strips at said mitered corners, said pair of blocks having complementary grooves in their adjacent faces along each leg of said blocks to form cylindrical holes extending divergently from the open corners of said mitered tubular frame strip ends,
- 2) means on each leg to insure proper alignment of said pair of blocks in each corner, and
- 3) a pair of self-threading screws in said divergent cylindrical holes formed in said blocks for wedging said pair of blocks apart to frictionally engage the inside surfaces of said tubular frame strips at their mitered ends for holding said frame strips together around said unit.
- 6. A unit according to claim 5 wherein said corner blocks are made of cast metal.
- 7. A unit according to claim 6 wherein said cast metal is aluminum.
- 8. A unit according to claim 5 wherein said frame strips are made of extruded aluminum.
- 9. A unit according to claim 5 wherein said means for insuring proper alignment comprises an interfitting projection and cavity in each leg of said pair of blocks.
