Claims
- 1. A valve actuating member for a trigger-type drinker, said member comprising:
- a head portion;
- a pin portion extending from said head portion;
- first means attached to said pin portion for retaining fluid and providing said fluid to a bird in response to actuation force applied to said valve actuating member from a side thereof and for hindering the dispersal of said fluid from a side other than the side of actuation; and
- second means for dividing said first means into a plurality of compartments in which said fluid may collect.
- 2. The valve actuating member according to claim 1, wherein said second means retains said water in all but one of said compartments upon actuation by said bird.
- 3. The valve actuating member according to claim 2, wherein said second means includes a plurality of raised ribs disposed on said first means.
- 4. The valve actuating member according to claim 3 in combination with a drinker housing having an inlet, an outlet, a valve chamber disposed between said inlet and outlet, and a valve seat and a valve member disposed in said valve chamber, said valve actuating member disposed such that said head portion is adjacent said valve member and said pin portion extends through said outlet.
- 5. The valve actuating member according to claim 4, wherein said first means includes a substantially flat disc having a lip disposed thereon and a sleeve extending upwardly from said disc and engaging said pin portion.
- 6. The valve actuating member according to claim 5, wherein said first means moves with said valve actuating member.
- 7. A device for supplying water to poultry and small animals, said device comprising:
- a chamber including an inlet and an outlet;
- a valve seat and a valve member disposed in said chamber;
- a valve actuating member housed partially within said chamber and extending through said outlet;
- first means disposed on said valve actuating member for retaining fluid and providing said fluid to a bird in response to actuation force applied to said means from a side thereof and for hindering the dispersal of said fluid from a point other than the point of actuation by said bird; and
- second means for dividing said first means into a plurality of compartments in which said fluid may collect.
- 8. The device according to claim 7, wherein said second means retains said water in all but one of said compartments upon actuation by said bird.
- 9. The device according to claim 8, wherein said second means includes a plurality of raised ribs disposed on said first means.
- 10. The device according to claim 9, wherein said first means includes a substantially flat disc having a lip disposed thereon and a sleeve extending upwardly from said disc and engaging said valve actuating member.
- 11. The device according to claim 10, wherein said first means moves with said valve actuating member.
- 12. A system for delivering water to poultry and small animals, said system comprising:
- a hose member connected to a water supply;
- a fluid conduit connected to said hose member at one end and connected to a drain valve at the other end; and
- at least one drinker connected to said fluid conduit, said drinker comprising a chamber, an inlet, an outlet, a valve seat and a valve member disposed in said chamber, a valve actuating member housed partially within said chamber and extending through said outlet, first means for collecting said fluid and delivering said fluid to a bird in response to actuation force applied by said bird from a side of said first means, second means disposed on said first means for receiving said actuation force and resisting dispersal of said fluid in the direction of said actuation force, third means extending from said first means for securing said first means to said valve actuating member and fourth means for dividing said first means into a plurality of compartments in which said fluid way collect.
- 13. The system according to claim 12, wherein said fourth means retains said water in all but one of said compartments upon actuation by said bird.
- 14. The system according to claim 13, wherein said fourth means includes a plurality of raised ribs disposed on said first means.
- 15. The system according to claim 14, wherein said first means includes a substantially flat disc.
- 16. The system according to claim 15, wherein said second means includes a lip disposed around the perimeter of said disc and extending upwardly therefrom.
- 17. The system according to claim 16, wherein said third means includes a substantially cylindrical sleeve extending upwardly from said disc and engaging said valve actuating member by means of a press-fit.
- 18. The system according to claim 17, wherein said first, second, third and fourth means move with said valve actuating member.
- 19. A device for retaining fluid on a valve actuating member of a trigger-type drinker, said device comprising:
- first means for collecting said fluid and delivering said fluid to a bird in response to an actuation force applied by said bird from a side of said first means;
- second means disposed on said first means for receiving said actuation force and resisting dispersal of said fluid in the direction of said actuation force;
- third means extending from said first means for securing said first means to said valve actuating member; and
- fourth means for dividing said first means into a plurality of compartments in which said fluid may collect.
- 20. The device according to claim 19, wherein said fourth means retains said water in all but one of said compartments upon actuation by said bird.
- 21. The device according to claim 20, wherein said fourth means includes a plurality of raised ribs disposed on said first means.
- 22. The device according to claim 21, wherein said first means includes a substantially flat disc.
- 23. The device according to claim 22, wherein said second means includes a lip disposed around the perimeter of said disc and extending upwardly therefrom.
- 24. The device according to claim 23, wherein said third means includes a substantially cylindrical sleeve extending upwardly from said disc and engaging said valve actuating member by means of a press-fit.
- 25. The device according to claim 24, wherein said device moves with said valve actuating member.
- 26. In a poultry watering system having a fluid supply line, nipple drinkers disposed in spaced apart relation along said fluid supply line, said nipple drinkers including a fluid outlet, a valve member, and a valve actuating member, said valve actuating member having a first portion retained within said nipple drinker and a second portion extending through said outlet and exterior of said nipple drinker, the improvement comprising;
- a body attached to said second portion of said valve actuating member at a location furthest from said fluid outlet, said body including a central connection means for securing said body to said valve actuating member, fluid retention means for supporting a limited amount of poultry watering fluid on said body and dispensing that fluid when said valve is actuated, a plurality of raised ribs dividing said body into a plurality of compartments and means for restricting dispersion of fluid retained on said body except to poultry.
- 27. The invention according to claim 26, wherein said plurality of raised ribs retains said water in all but one of said compartments upon actuation by said bird.
- 28. The invention according to claim 27, wherein said body extends radially outward from said valve actuating member and said means for restricting dispersion includes a peripheral ridge formed along the radially outermost portion of said body and extending towards said outlet.
- 29. The invention according to claim 28, wherein said central connection means includes a recess having the same cross sectional configuration as the cross sectional configuration of said valve actuating member except being of a slightly smaller dimension prior to attachment of said body to said valve actuating member.
- 30. The invention according to claim 29, wherein said body moves with said valve actuating member.
- 31. A poultry watering device, comprising:
- a housing having an inlet and an outlet;
- a valve disposed between said inlet and said outlet;
- a valve actuating trigger extending through said outlet; and
- a water retaining disc secured to said trigger, said disc including a collecting surface and a lip extending from said collecting surface.
- 32. The device according to claim 31, wherein said trigger pivots in said housing when lateral force is applied to said disc.
- 33. The device according to claim 31, wherein said disc further includes a sleeve extending from said surface and surrounding a portion of said trigger.
- 34. The device according to claim 31, wherein said disc further includes a plurality of ribs disposed on said surface.
- 35. A valve actuating member for a trigger-type drinker, said member comprising:
- a head portion;
- a pin portion extending from said head portion; and
- first means attached to said pin portion for retaining fluid and providing said fluid to a bird in response to actuation force applied to said valve actuating member from a side thereof and for hindering the dispersal of said fluid from a side other than the side of actuation.
- 36. The valve actuating member according to claim 32, in combination with a drinker housing having an inlet, an outlet, a valve chamber disposed between said inlet and outlet, and a valve seat and a valve member disposed in said valve chamber, said valve actuating member disposed such that said head portion is adjacent said valve member and said pin portion extends through said outlet.
- 37. The valve actuating member according to claim 36, wherein said first means includes a substantially flat disc having a lip disposed thereon and a sleeve extending upwardly from said disc and engaging said pin portion.
- 38. The device according to claim 37, wherein said first means moves with said valve actuating member.
- 39. The valve actuating member according to claim 36, wherein said first means moves with said valve actuating member.
- 40. A device for supplying water to poultry and small animals, said device comprising:
- a chamber including an inlet and an outlet;
- a valve seat and a valve member disposed in said chamber;
- a valve actuating member housed partially within said chamber and extending through said outlet; and
- first means disposed on said valve actuating member for retaining fluid and providing said fluid to a bird in response to actuation force applied to said means from a side thereof and for hindering the dispersal of said fluid from a point other than the point of actuation by said bird.
- 41. The device according to claim 40, wherein said first means includes a substantially flat disc having a lip disposed thereon and a sleeve extending upwardly from said disc and engaging said pin portion.
- 42. A system for delivering water to poultry and small animals, said system comprising:
- a hose member connected to a water supply;
- a fluid conduit connected to said hose member at one end and connected to a drain valve at the other end;
- at least one drinker connected to said fluid conduit, said drinker comprising a chamber, an inlet, an outlet, a valve seat and a valve member disposed in said chamber, a valve actuating member housed partially within said chamber and extending through said outlet, first means for collecting said fluid and delivering said fluid to a bird in response to actuation force applied by said bird from a side of said first means, second means disposed on said first means for receiving said actuation force and resisting dispersal of said fluid in the direction of said actuation force, and third means extending from said first means for securing said first means to said valve actuating member.
- 43. The system according to claim 42, wherein said first means includes a substantially flat disc.
- 44. The system according to claim 43, wherein said second means includes a lip disposed around the perimeter of said disc and extending upwardly therefrom.
- 45. The system according to claim 44, wherein said third means includes a substantially cylindrical sleeve extending upwardly from said disc and engaging said valve actuating member by means of a press-fit.
- 46. The device according to claim 44, wherein said third means includes a substantially cylindrical sleeve extending upwardly from said disc and engaging said valve actuating member by means of a press-fit.
- 47. The device according to claim 43, wherein said second means includes a lip disposed around the perimeter of said disc and extending upwardly therefrom.
- 48. The system according to claim 42, wherein said first, second and third means move with said valve actuating member.
- 49. The device according to claim 42, wherein said first means includes a substantially flat disc.
- 50. The device according to claim 42, wherein said first means moves with said valve actuating member.
- 51. A device for retaining fluid on a valve actuating member of a trigger-type drinker, said device comprising:
- first means for collecting said fluid and delivering said fluid to a bird in response to an actuation force applied by said bird from a side of said first means;
- second means disposed on said first means for receiving said actuation force and resisting dispersal of said fluid in the direction of said actuation force; and
- third means extending from said first means for securing said first means to said valve actuating member.
- 52. In a poultry watering system having a fluid supply line, nipple drinkers disposed in spaced apart relation along said fluid supply line, said nipple drinkers including a fluid outlet, a valve member, and a valve actuating member, said valve actuating member having a first portion retained within said nipple drinker and a second portion extending through said outlet and exterior of said nipple drinker, the improvement comprising:
- a body attached to said second portion of said valve actuating member at a location furthest from said fluid outlet, said body including a central connection means for securing said body to said valve actuating member, fluid retention means for supporting a limited amount of poultry watering fluid on said body and dispensing that fluid when said valve is actuated, and means for restricting dispersion of fluid retained on said body except to poultry.
- 53. The invention according to claim 52, wherein said body extends radially outward from said valve actuating member and said means for restricting dispersion includes a peripheral ridge formed along the radially outermost portion of said body and extending towards said outlet.
- 54. The invention according to claim 53, wherein said central connection means includes a recess having the same cross-sectional configuration as the cross-sectional configuration of said valve actuating member except being of a slightly smaller dimension prior to attachment of said body to said valve actuating member.
- 55. The invention according to claim 52, wherein said body moves with said valve actuating member.
