Claims
- 1. An alkene compound of the formula: wherein R3 and R4 are each selected from the group consisting of acyclic, cyclic and polycyclic organic groups which can optionally be substituted with heteroatom substituents attached to the cyclic group and which can optionally be joined together to form a cyclic or polycyclic ring group, wherein R2 is an aryl ring group selected from the group consisting of substituted or unsubstituted phenyl and substituted or unsubstituted naphthyl groups, wherein Z is selected from the group consisting of halogen atoms and alkyl groups of 1-4 carbons, and M is selected from hydrogen, an alkali metal ion or a quaternary ammonium or phosphonium ion.
- 2. The alkene of claim 1 wherein Z is selected from halogen atoms and alkyl groups of 1-4 carbons and each M is Na.
- 3. The compound of claim 2 wherein Z is F.
- 4. The compound of claim 2 wherein Z is CH3.
- 5. An alkene compound of the formula: wherein R3 and R4 are each selected from the group consisting of acyclic, cyclic and polycyclic organic groups which can optionally be substituted with heteroatom substituents attached to the cyclic group and which can optionally be joined together to form a cyclic or polycyclic ring group, wherein R2 is an aryl ring group selected from the group consisting of substituted or unsubstituted phenyl and substituted or unsubstituted naphthyl groups, wherein Z is selected from the group consisting of halogen atoms and alkyl groups of 1-4 carbons, wherein each R′ is an alkyl group of 1-4 carbons and each Y is selected from halogen atoms, substituted or unsubstituted alkoxy, aryloxy, aralkyloxy and trialkylsilyloxy groups.
- 6. The compound of claim 5 wherein Z is F and each Y is a substituted alkoxy group.
- 7. The compound of claim 6 wherein each Y is a 2-cyanoethoxy group.
- 8. The compound of claim 5 wherein Z is CH3 and each Y is a substituted alkoxy group.
- 9. The compound of claim 8 wherein each Y is a 2-cyanoethoxy group.
- 10. The compound of claim 5 wherein Z is F and each Y is a chlorine atom.
