Claims
- 1. A waterproof optical fiber cable for use in a communication system comprising:
- an elongated spacer formed with at least one groove extending therealong,
- an optical fiber disposed in said groove in a slack state,
- dampproof material filled into a plurality of portions of said groove to define filled portions spaced from one another by a predetermined interval with respect to the longitudinal direction of the spacer to provide filled portions alternating with portions which are substantially free of any kind of filler so that after tension stresses are relieved from said cable, said substantially filler free portions of said groove allow said fiber to return to approximately said original slack state, and
- means for covering at least the outer surface of the filled portions without forming any gap between the outer surface of the filled portions and the covering means.
- 2. The waterproof optical fiber cable according to claim 1, wherein said spacer is reinforced by a reinforcing strip extending in the center portion of the spacer.
- 3. The waterproof optical fiber cable according to claim 1, wherein said spacer is formed with a plurality of grooves extending along the spacer in a helical shape.
- 4. The waterproof optical fiber cable according to claim 1, wherein said covering means comprises a tape wound around an outer surface of the spacer and running through said filled portions.
- 5. The waterproof optical fiber cable according to claim 1, wherein said dampproof material is in the form of jelly.
- 6. The waterproof optical fiber cable according to claim 1, wherein said dampproof material is in the form of jelly and the covering means is formed over the entire length of the spacer.
- 7. The waterproof optical fiber cable according to claim 6, wherein said covering means has two side faces, and both side faces are sunk with the jelly material.
