Claims
- 1. A weapon system for a turret comprising:
- a rotor having first and second ends rotatable about a horizontal axis,
- a main gun and a coaxial machine gun attached to said rotor, said main gun and said machine gun each using link-fed ammunition,
- a first mounting means for mounting said first end of said rotor to the turret, said first mounting means comprising a trunnion bearing means,
- a second mounting means for mounting said second end of said rotor to the turret,
- a compartment adjacent the outboard portion of said trunnion bearing means and communicating with the exterior of the turret,
- an end cap attached to said first end of said rotor and having a plurality of openings formed therein,
- an ejecting means for ejecting spent links from said main gun through one of said openings in said end cap and into said compartment,
- an ejecting means for said machine gun for ejecting spent links and spent brass through a second opening in said end cap and into said compartment,
- a door hingedly attached to said turret for partially closing said compartment and providing a slot through which said spent links and spent brass which accumulate in said compartment are allowed to pass to the exterior of the turret, and
- a third opening in said end cap for allowing propellant gases from said main gun and said machine gun to be ejected into said compartment.
- 2. A weapon system for a turret comprising:
- a rotor having first and second ends rotatable about a horizontal axis,
- a main gun attached to said rotor, said main gun using link-fed ammunition,
- an end cap provided with a plurality of openings and attached to said first end of said rotor,
- a first mounting means for mounting said first end of said rotor to the turret, said first mounting means comprising a trunnion bearing means,
- a second mounting means for mounting said second end of said rotor to the turret, said second mounting means comprising a spindle bearing means,
- a compartment adjacent the outboard portion of said trunnion bearing means and communicating said openings in said end cap with the exterior of the turret,
- an ejecting means for ejecting spent links from said main gun through one of said openings in said end cap and into said compartment,
- said compartment having a door and an attaching means for attaching said door so that said door is pushed open by spent links that accumulate in said compartment,
- said compartment having an opening along a lower portion thereof through which the spent links may pass to the exterior of the turret,
- said main gun having a center longitudinal axis lying in a vertical plane,
- said turret being rotatable about a vertical axis,
- a co-axially mounted machine gun attached to said rotor adjacent said main gun,
- a machine gun ejecting means for ejecting spent links and spent brass from said machine gun through a second opening in said end cap and into said compartment,
- said machine gun being positioned on said rotor between said main gun and said compartment,
- a machine gun ammunition box positioned in the turret on the side of said gun opposite said machine gun and in generally the same horizontal plane as said machine gun,
- a machine gun feed means for feeding ammunition from said machine gun ammunition box to said machine gun,
- said machine gun feed means passing beneath said gun,
- a boot enveloping portions of said main gun and of said machine gun for accumulating propellant gases, and
- a blowing means for blowing accumulated gases out of said boot through a third opening in said end cap and into said compartment.
