Claims
- 1. A self-propelled multi-wheeled compactor for refuse comprising a chassis, a pair of spaced axles on the chassis, a set of wheels rotatably supported on the axles, an engine and a pair of said wheel sin rotation on their associated axle or axles, the wheels having inboard sides formed of surfaces that include concave portions facing towards the chassis, the wheels each having a cutter blade mounted on it at a location which revolves in a path around its associated axle, said revolving cutter blades having cutting edges in a zone bounded by said wheel surfaces and being substantially 12 spaced from said wheel surfaces, a stationary cutter blade mounted on each associated axle at a location 14 generally tangent to the path of the revolving cutter blade, the stationary cutter blades having cutting edges that cooperate with said revolving cutter blades to shear refuse that tends to be entrained by the associated wheel and wrapped around the associated axle.
- 2. A compactor as set forth in claim 12, wherein said concave portions have conical sections.
- 3. A compactor as set forth in claim 12, wherein each of said wheels has an outside diameter and an inside diameter, said rotating cutter blades having their cutting edges proximate said inside diameter and remote from said outside diameter.
