Claims
- 1. A hub assembly for a vehicle wheel comprising:
a first hub member having a central opening, a plurality of ventilation openings in circumferentially spaced position about the opening, an inner circumferential surface and an outer circumferential surface; a second hub member having a central opening, a plurality of ventilation openings in circumferentially spaced position about the opening, an inner circumferential surface and an outer circumferential surface; a plurality of matching bolt holes in said hub members for securing them together; and the outer circumferential surfaces of the hub members forming a concave circumferential surface for receiving a tire thereon.
- 2. The hub assembly according to claim 1, where the outer circumferential surfaces of the hub members are of greater diameter than the inner circumferential surfaces of the hub members.
- 3. The hub assembly according to claim 1, wherein said first hub member and said second hub member are identical.
- 4. The hub assembly according to claim 1, wherein said ventilation openings form passageways to allow for the movement of air when the vehicle wheel is rotating.
- 5. The hub assembly according to claim 1, wherein said hub members are engaged end to end on their inner circumferential surfaces.
- 6. The hub assembly according to claim 1, wherein said central openings are sized to accommodate a wheel bearing cassette.
- 7. A hub assembly for a vehicle wheel comprising:
a first hub member having a central opening, an inner circumferential surface and an outer circumferential surface; a second hub member having a central opening, an inner circumferential surface and an outer circumferential surface; a plurality of matching bolt holes in said hub members for securing them together; and the outer circumferential surfaces of the hub members forming a concave circumferential surface for receiving a tire thereon.
- 8. The hub assembly according to claim 7, wherein the outer circumferential surfaces of the hub members are of greater diameter than the inner circumferential surfaces of the hub members.
- 9. The hub assembly according to claim 7, wherein said first hub member and said second hub member are identical.
- 10. The hub assembly according to claim 7, wherein said hub members are engaged end to end on their inner circumferences.
- 11. The hub assembly according to claim 7, wherein said central openings are sized to accommodate a wheel bearing cassette.
- 12. A wheel assembly for a wheeled vehicle comprising:
a generally ring-shaped integrally formed tire having a circumferential inner surface that is convexly shaped in a lateral direction; at least two generally ring-shaped metallic rims each having an outer circumference and a smaller inner circumference and bonded to said tire and forming an inner circumferential surface; a hub assembly having an outer circumferential surface; said inner circumferential surface of the metallic rims supported upon the hub assembly in engaging relationship with the outer circumferential surface of the hub assembly; and the hub assembly having locking elements for maintaining a radially outward force upon the inner circumferential surface of the tire and preventing the tire from moving laterally or circumferentially relative to the hub assembly.
- 13. The wheel assembly according to claim 12, wherein said hub members are identical.
- 14. The wheel assembly according to claim 12, wherein said metallic rims are constructed of aluminum.
- 15. The wheel assembly according to claim 12, wherein said tire is made from polyurethane.
- 16. A wheel assembly for a wheeled vehicle comprising:
a generally ring-shaped integrally formed tire having a circumferential inner surface that is convexly shaped in a lateral direction; a hub assembly having an outer circumferential surface; said inner circumferential surface of the tire supported upon the hub assembly in engaging relationship with the outer circumferential surface of the hub assembly; and the hub assembly having locking elements for maintaining a radially outward force upon the inner circumferential surface of the tire and preventing the tire from moving laterally or circumferentially relative to the hub assembly.
- 17. The wheel assembly according to claim 16, wherein said hub members are identical.
- 18. The wheel assembly according to claim 16, wherein said tire is made from polyurethane.
- 19. The wheel assembly according to claim 16, wherein said tire is made from plastic.
- 20. The wheel assembly according to claim 16, wherein said tire is made from metal.
- 21. An improved wheel assembly for a wheeled vehicle of the type having an inner tire member, an outer tire member, an outboard hub member, and an inboard hub member, wherein said improvement comprises:
providing identical inboard and outboard hub members.
