Claims
- 1. A method of cleaning a stationary printhead wiper, comprising:providing a printhead cartridge with a pair of spaced apart printhead debris accumulation areas, a pair of wiping surfaces and a pair of wiper debris accumulation areas, respective ones of said pairs of printhead debris accumulation areas, wining surfaces and wiper debris accumulation areas sandwiching a printhead mounted on the printhead cartridge, such that the printhead wiper is out of contact with the printhead cartridge when the printhead wiper is positioned over either of said pair of wiper debris accumulation areas; dislodging wiper debris from the printhead wiper by engaging the printhead wiper with one of the wiping surfaces so the wiper debris falls under the force of gravity onto one of said pair of wiper debris accumulation areas; and dislodging printhead debris from said printhead by engaging the wiper with the printhead while moving the printhead cartridge so the printhead debris falls under the force of gravity in one of said printhead debris accumulation areas.
- 2. A method of cleaning a printhead wiper according to claim 1, further comprising:disposing of said printhead cartridge when said printhead cartridge is spent of its ink supply.
- 3. A method of cleaning a printhead wiper according to claim 1, wherein said step of dislodging wiper debris includes:moving said printhead cartridge along a fixed rectilinear path of travel orthogonal to the stationary printhead wiper, said printhead wiper being mounted in a fixed location in said path of travel.
- 4. A method of cleaning a printhead wiper according to claim 3, wherein said step of dislodging printhead debris includes:moving said printhead cartridge in an opposite direction along said rectilinear path of travel to dislodge debris from the printhead.
- 5. A method of cleaning a printhead wiper, comprising:providing a stationary printhead wiper mounted fixedly in a path of travel followed by a printhead cartridge having an integrally formed wiper cleaning station sandwiched about a printhead, said wiper cleaning station comprising a pair of spaced apart printhead debris accumulation areas, a pair of wiping surfaces and a pair of wiper debris accumulation areas, respective ones of said pairs of printhead debris accumulation areas, wiping surfaces and wiper debris accumulation areas sandwiching said printhead; moving said printhead cartridge in a cleaning direction along said path of travel to a position opposite said stationary wiper but with the wiper cleaning station not in engagement therewith; moving said printhead cartridge in an opposite cleaning direction along said path of travel to scrape said stationary printhead wiper in sequence first on one of said pair of wiping surfaces of said integrally formed wiper station to remove any wiper debris accumulated on said wiper; said wiper debris falling under force of gravity onto one of said wiper debris accumulation areas, next on said printhead to remove any printhead debris accumulated thereon, said printhead debris falling under force of gravity onto one of said printhead debris accumulation areas.
- 6. A method of cleaning a printhead wiper according to claim 5, further comprising:repeating the steps of moving and scraping until an insufficient amount of desired fluid is ejected by the printhead cartridge onto a fluid receiving surface; and replacing said printhead cartridge with another printhead cartridge to discard debris accumulated from the printhead and the printhead wiper during said step of repeating.
- 7. A method of cleaning a printhead wiper, comprising:positioning a wiper cleaning station integrally formed on a printhead cartridge opposite a stationary wiper without engaging said wiper, said printhead cartridge having a printhead mounted thereon, said wiper cleaning station comprising a pair of wiping surfaces and a pair of wiper debris accumulation areas, respective ones of said pairs of wiping surfaces and wiper debris accumulation areas sandwiching said printhead, the wiper debris accumulation areas out of contact with the wiser when the wiper is positioned over one of said areas; and moving said printhead cartridge and said cleaning station along a rectilinear path of travel orthogonal to said wiper to engage and clean said wiper with one or more of said pair of wiping surfaces as said cleaning station travels back and forth along said rectilinear path of travel, and collecting wiper debris dislodged from said wiper in one or more of said pair of wiper debris accumulation areas.
- 8. A method of cleaning a printhead wiper, according to claim 7, further comprising:moving said printhead cartridge along said rectilinear path of travel to engage and clean said printhead with said stationary wiper as said wiper cleaning station and said printhead cartridge move along said rectilinear path of travel.
- 9. A method of cleaning a printhead, according to claim 7, further comprising:positioning said printhead cartridge and said wiper cleaning station opposite said stationary wiper without engaging said printhead; and moving said printhead cartridge and said wiper cleaning station along said rectilinear path of travel to engage and clean said wiper as said cleaning station and said printhead travel back and forth along said rectilinear path of travel.
