Claims
- 1. An inductive device comprising:
a magnetic core formed of a plurality of wires, said wires each having first and second ends; at least one electric winding surrounding said magnetic core; and wherein said first and second ends of said plurality of wires extend around said at least one electric winding enveloping said magnetic core and said at least one electric winding forming a complete magnetic circuit.
- 2. The inductive device of claim 1, further comprising a mounting post held within said plurality of wires and extending therefrom for supporting the inductive device.
- 3. The inductive device of claim 1, further comprising means for securing said first and second ends of said plurality of wires together.
- 4. The inductive device of claim 3, further comprising a wire wrapped around at least said first and second ends of said plurality of wires to provide further containment of magnet flux emanating from the device and reduction of the intrusion of electromagnetic interference and magnetic flux from external sources.
- 5. The inductive device of claim 1, further comprising at least one non-magnetic tube extending through said plurality of wires for carrying a fluid for removing heat from within said device.
- 6. The inductive device of claim 1, wherein said at least one electric winding includes primary and secondary windings;
said primary winding supported by said magnetic core; and said secondary winding supported by said primary winding.
- 7. The inductive device of claim 1, wherein said at least one electric winding includes primary and secondary windings;
said primary and secondary windings each supported by said magnetic core.
- 8. A method for making an inductive device, comprising the steps of:
forming a magnetic core of a plurality of wires; supporting at least one electric winding along the length of said magnetic core; and forming said plurality of wires over said electric winding to envelop said winding and form a complete magnetic circuit.
- 9. The method for making an inductive device according to claim 8, wherein the forming step includes:
winding at least one wire on a spindle to form a bundle; severing and straightening the wound wires to form the core.
- 10. The method for making an inductive device according to claim 8, wherein the step of supporting said at least one electric winding along the length of said magnetic core includes supporting first and second electric windings.
- 11. The method for making an inductive device according to claim 10, wherein the step of supporting said first and second windings along the length of said magnetic core includes supporting said second winding directly on said first winding.
- 12. The method for making an inductive device according to claim 8, further comprising the step wrapping a wire around at least a portion of said plurality of wires.
