Claims
- 1. An assembly for retaining wire for use with a picture frame and other objects to be mounted to a vertical support, comprising:
a base having a plurality of openings through which wire may be fed; a lever movably secured to the base and having a passageway through which the wire may be fed, the lever movable between an open position and a closed position, the assembly securely retaining the wire when the lever is in the closed position, and the assembly not securely retaining the wire when the lever is in the open position.
- 2. The assembly of claim 1, wherein the lever is rotatably movable relative to the base, the lever being rotatable between the open position and the closed position.
- 3. The assembly of claim 1, further comprising a second lever movably secured to the base and having a respective passageway through which the wire may be fed, the second lever movable between an open position and a closed position; wherein wire fed through a respective one of the first and second levers is secured when the respective lever is in the closed position, and not secured when the respective lever is in the open position.
- 4. The assembly of claim 1, wherein the plurality of openings in the base includes first and second openings disposed on opposite sides of the lever, the wire being fed through the first opening, then through the passageway of the lever, then through the second opening.
- 5. The assembly of claim 1, wherein, when wire is fed through the plurality of openings of the base and then through the passageway of the lever, movement of the lever from the open position to the closed position forces the wire to be bent sufficiently so that the assembly securely retains the wire.
- 6. The assembly of claim 1, further comprising wire disposed through the plurality of openings of the base and also through the passageway of the lever, wherein the locations of the plurality of the openings and the position of the lever on the base and the shape of the lever are adapted to not securely retain the wire when the lever is in the open position, and to securely retain the wire when the lever is in the closed position.
- 7. The assembly of claim 6, further comprising a second lever being movably secured to the base and having a respective passageway through which the wire may be disposed, the second lever movable between an open position and a closed position, the second lever securely retaining the wire when the second lever is in the closed position, and not securely retaining the wire when the second lever is in the open position.
- 8. The assembly of claim 1, further comprising a locking mechanism coupled to the lever for selectively locking the lever in the closed position.
- 9. An assembly for retaining wire for use with a picture frame and other objects to be mounted to a vertical support, comprising;
a base having a plurality of openings through which wire may be fed, a first lever movably secured to the base and having a passageway through which the wire may be fed; and a second lever movably secured to the base and having a passageway through which the wire may be fed, the first and second levers being movable between respective open and closed positions, a respective one of the first and second levers securely retaining the wire when the respective lever is in the closed position.
- 10. A combination, comprising:
an assembly including a base and a lever movably secured to the base, the lever having an internal passageway and being movable relative to the base between an open position and a closed position; and wire having a portion disposed within the internal passageway of the lever; the assembly being adapted to securely retain the wire when the lever is moved to the closed position and to not securely retain the wire when the lever is moved to the open position.
- 11. The combination of claim 10, wherein the lever is rotatably secured to the base, the lever being rotatable between the open position and the closed position.
- 12. The combination of claim 10, wherein the wire is substantially bent at a location when the lever is in the closed position and the wire is not substantially bent at said location when the lever is moved to the open position.
- 13. The combination of claim 10, wherein the assembly includes first and second openings disposed on substantially opposite ends of the lever, the wire extending through the first opening, then through the internal passageway of the lever, then through the second opening.
- 14. The combination of claim 13, wherein a shortest distance path extending from the first opening through the internal passageway of the lever to the second opening when the lever is in the open position is substantially shorter than when the lever is in the closed position.
- 15. The combination of claim 13, wherein the wire is substantially at a portion extending between the first and second openings when the lever is in the closed position and the wire is not substantially bent at said portion when the lever is in the open position.
- 16. The combination of claim 13, wherein the wire is substantially at first and second portions extending between the first and second openings when the lever is in the closed position and the wire is not substantially bent at said first and second portions when the lever is in the open position.
- 17. The combination of claim 10, wherein the assembly includes a second lever movably secured to the base, the second lever having a respective internal passageway and being movable relative to the base between a respective open position and a respective closed position; and the wire has a second portion disposed within the internal passageway of the second lever.
- 18. A method of securing wire, comprising the steps of:
providing an assembly having a base and a lever movably secured to the base; disposing wire through a first opening in the base, then through a passageway in the lever, then through a second opening in the base; and moving the lever relative to the base to cause the wire to be substantially bent at a portion disposed between the first and second openings in the base.
- 19. The method of claim 18, wherein the step of moving the lever further causes the wire to be substantially bent at a second portion disposed between the first and second openings in the base.
- 20. The method of claim 18, wherein the step of moving the lever is carried out by rotating the lever from an open position to a closed position, wherein the wire is substantially bent at said portion during rotation of the lever from the open position to the closed position.
- 21. The method of claim 20, further comprising the step of rotating the lever from the closed position to the open position to cause the bent portion of the wire to unbend sufficiently to allow the wire to be substantially movable within the assembly.
- 22. A combination, comprising:
an object to be hung from a substantially vertical surface; an assembly secured to the object and including a base and a lever movably secured to the base, the lever having an internal passageway and being movable relative to the base between an open position and a closed position; and wire having a portion disposed within the internal passageway of the lever; the assembly being adapted to securely retain the wire when the lever is moved to the closed position and to not securely retain the wire when the lever is moved to the open position.
- 23. The combination of claim 22, wherein the wire includes first and second ends, the first end of the wire being retained by the assembly; the combination further comprising a mounting mechanism coupled to the object and securely retaining the second end of the wire.
- 24. The combination of claim 22, wherein the assembly represents a first assembly, the object includes left and right portions and the first assembly is secured to the object at the left portion; the combination further comprising a second assembly secured to the right portion of the object and including a respective base and a respective lever movably secured to the base, the lever having an internal passageway and being movable relative to the base between an open position and a closed position; wherein the wire includes first and second ends, the first end being secured by the first assembly and the second end being secured by the second assembly.
