Claims
- 1. An index pin for fastening to a baseplate and extending into a workpiece hole for locating a workpiece relative to a baseplate which comprises:
- a generally spherical head having a center;
- an extension unitary with said head and extending away from said head;
- said extension having an axis extending through said center of said spherical head;
- said generally spherical head having at least two cut away portions forming at least two fixed flats on said head;
- said flats lying approximately parallel to said extension axis;
- means for fastening said extension in an opening in a base plate with said flats aligned substantially perpendicular to said base plate said means for fastening comprising;
- a coaxial extension hating a proximal end secured to said head and having a predetermined diameter for fitting into a base plate hole;
- an internally threaded axial aperture through said head and extension;
- at least one slot in the extension distal end;
- said axial aperture having a gradually decreasing diameter toward said distal end; and
- a setscrew threaded into said internal thread;
- whereby threading said setscrew toward said distal end will expand said extension into pressure contact with said base plate hole.
- 2. The index pin according to claim 1 wherein three flats are provided in said spherical head, evenly spaced apart around said spherical head.
- 3. The index pin according to claim 1 wherein four flats are provided in said spherical head, evenly spaced apart around said spherical head.
- 4. The index pin according to claim 2 wherein two opposed spaced pairs of contiguous flats are provided in said spherical head, whereby said index pin is generally diamond-shaped in plan view.
- 5. An index pin for fastening to a baseplate and extending into a workpiece hole for locating a workpiece relative to a baseplate which comprises:
- a generally spherical head having a center;
- an extension unitary with said head and extending away from said head;
- said extension having an axis extending through said center of said spherical head;
- expansion means for increasing the diameter of said extension;
- said generally spherical head having at least three cut away portions forming at least three fixed flats on said head;
- said flats lying approximately parallel to said extension axis; and
- means for fastening said extension in an opening in a base plate with said flats aligned substantially perpendicular to said base plate.
- 6. The index pin according to claim 5 wherein three flats are provided in said spherical head, evenly spaced apart around said spherical head.
- 7. The index pin according to claim 5 wherein four flats are provided in said spherical head, evenly spaced apart around said spherical head.
- 8. The index pin according to claim 5 wherein two opposed spaced pairs of contiguous flats are provided in said spherical head, whereby said index pin is generally diamond-shaped in plan view.
