Claims
- 1. An article for use as a dressing and a compress, said article comprising a flexible backing, a formable shell attached to the backing to form at least one enclosure therebetween, and at least one fill material contained within the at least one enclosure, said at least one fill material retaining at least one form of silver therein.
- 2. The article of claim 1, wherein the backing and the shell each comprise a synthetic fabric.
- 3. The article of claim 2, wherein the backing and the shell are each separately selected from the group of synthetic fabrics consisting of synthetic olefin, polyester, urethane, and nylon.
- 4. The article of claim 1, wherein the shell is fluid permeable.
- 5. The article of claim 4, wherein the shell is vapor permeable.
- 6. The article of claim 4, wherein the shell is liquid permeable.
- 7. The article of claim 1, wherein the shell is attached to the backing by a sewn fiber.
- 8. The article of claim 1, wherein the shell is attached to the backing by an RF weld.
- 9. The article of claim 1, wherein the shell is attached to the backing by an ultrasonic weld.
- 10. The article of claim 1, wherein the shell is attached to the by an adhesive.
- 11. The article of claim 1, wherein the shell is attached to the backing by a heat induced seal.
- 12. The article of claim 1, wherein the at least one enclosure is formed to define a geometric shape.
- 13. The article of claim 12, wherein the geometric shape is selected from the group of geometric shapes consisting of a circle, an ellipse, a channel, and a hexagon.
- 14. The article of claim 1, wherein the at least one enclosure is formed as a polygon.
- 15. The article of claim 1, wherein the at least one enclosure is shaped as a hexagon having a lengthwise dimension extending from a first corner to a spaced second corner thereof, said dimension being in the range of from approximately one inch to four inches in length.
- 16. The article of claim 1, said at least one enclosure comprising a plurality of enclosures spaced with respect to one another and which together substantially cover a pre-determined area of the article.
- 17. The article of claim 1, wherein the fill material comprises an ion exchange material.
- 18. The article of claim 1, wherein the fill material comprises a molecular sieve.
- 19. The article of claim 1, wherein the at least one form of silver is selected from the group consisting of atomic silver, silver compounds, silver salts, silver chloride, and silver nitrate.
- 20. An article for use as a dressing or a compress, said article comprising:
a flexible backing; a formable fluid-permeable shell attached to the flexible backing to form at least one enclosure therebetween; and at least one fill material contained within the at least one enclosure; said at least one fill material comprising zeolite and being constructed and arranged to retain at least one form of silver therein.
- 21. The article of claim 20, wherein the backing and the shell are each comprised of at least one synthetic fabric.
- 22. The article of claim 20, wherein said at least one form of silver is selected from the group consisting of atomic silver, silver compounds, silver salts, silver chloride, and silver nitrate.
