Claims
- 1. A wound dressing for covering a wound, comprising:
a skin adherent facing layer consisting of a discrete layer of silicone gel having a plurality of preformed apertures arranged in a pattern.
- 2. The wound dressing according to claim 1, wherein the plurality of apertures are defined in a pattern varying in number per unit area according to their location relative to a center axis of the silicone gel layer.
- 3. The wound dressing according to claim 1, wherein the plurality of apertures are defined in a pattern varying in size according to their location relative to a center axis of the silicone gel layer.
- 4. The wound dressing according to claim 1, wherein the silicone gel layer is substantially planar along a proximal surface thereof.
- 5. The wound dressing according to claim 1, wherein the silicone gel layer includes a skin treatment agent selected from the group consisting of aloe vera and petroleum jelly.
- 6. The wound dressing according to claim 1, wherein the apertures are generally circular.
- 7. The wound dressing according to claim 1, wherein the apertures are generally uniform in shape.
- 8. The wound dressing according to claim 1, wherein the apertures are generally equally spaced from one another.
- 9. The wound dressing according to claim 1, wherein the pattern of the apertures comprises alternating apertures of at least two different sizes.
- 10. The wound dressing according to claim 9, wherein the apertures have two different sizes, the first size being larger than the second size and the apertures of the first size being bordered by the apertures of the second size.
- 11. The wound dressing according to claim 10, wherein the apertures of the second size are bordered by the apertures of the first size.
- 12. The wound dressing according to claim 1, wherein the silicone gel layer has a progressive increase of tackiness extending from a central portion to a border portion thereof.
- 13. The wound dressing according to claim 1, wherein the silicone gel layer is partially cured.
- 14. The wound dressing according to claim 1, wherein the silicone gel layer has regions of varying thickness.
- 15. A wound dressing for covering a region of skin, the wound dressing consisting of:
a facing layer comprising at least one discrete layer of cross-linked silicone gel having at least one aperture.
- 16. The wound dressing according to claim 15, wherein the facing layer includes two discrete layers of silicone gel, each layer of silicone gel having a different tensile strength.
- 17. The wound dressing according to claim 16, wherein each of the two discrete layers of silicone gel has a plurality of apertures extending therethrough and generally aligned with apertures of an adjacent one of said discrete layers of silicone gel.
- 18. A wound dressing for covering a region of skin, the wound dressing consisting of:
a skin adherent facing layer of a discrete layer of cross-linked silicone gel having a plurality of preformed apertures arranged in a pattern.
- 19. The wound dressing according to claim 18, wherein the pattern comprises a plurality of equally spaced apertures.
- 20. The wound dressing according to claim 18, wherein the pattern comprises a plurality of apertures having a substantially uniform shape.
