Claims
- 1. An article comprising:
a plurality of fill yarns, having a weight per unit length of a first value, and a plurality of warp yarns, having a weight per unit length of a second value greater than the first value, woven to form a fabric having a fill yarn cover factor of at least about 75% and a warp yarn cover factor of at least about 100%.
- 2. The article as in claim 1, wherein the fabric has a fill yarn cover factor of at least about 80%.
- 3. The article as in claim 2, wherein the fabric has a fill yarn cover factor of at least about 85%.
- 4. The article as in claim 3, wherein the fabric has a fill yarn cover factor of at least about 88%.
- 5. The article as in claim 1, wherein the fabric has a warp yarn cover factor of at least about 110%.
- 6. The article as in claim 5, wherein the fabric has a warp yarn cover factor of at least about 120%.
- 7. The article as in claim 6, wherein the fabric has a warp yarn cover factor of at least about 130%.
- 8. The article as in claim 7, wherein the fabric has a warp yarn cover factor of at least about 140%.
- 9. The article as in claim 8, wherein the fabric has a warp yarn cover factor of at least about 145%.
- 10. The article as in claim 9, wherein the fabric has a warp yarn cover factor of at least about 150%.
- 11. The article as in claim 1, wherein the first value does not exceed about 400 Denier.
- 12. The article as in claim 11, wherein the first value does not exceed about 200 Denier.
- 13. The article as in claim 12, wherein the first value does not exceed about 150 Denier.
- 14. The article as in claim 13, wherein the first value does not exceed about 100 Denier.
- 15. The article as in claim 14, wherein the first value does not exceed about 75 Denier.
- 16. The article as in claim 15, wherein the first value does not exceed about 50 Denier.
- 17. The article as in claim 1, wherein the second value is at least about 100 Denier.
- 18. The article as in claim 17, wherein the second value is at least about 150 Denier.
- 19. The article as in claim 18, wherein the second value is at least about 200 Denier.
- 20. The article as in claim 19, wherein the second value is at least about 400 Denier.
- 21. The article as in claim 1, wherein the first value is about 200 Denier and the second value is about 400 Denier.
- 22. The article as in claim 1, wherein the first value is about 175 Denier and the second value is about 200 Denier.
- 23. The article as in claim 1, wherein the first value is about 100 Denier and the second value is about 200 Denier.
- 24. The article as in claim 1, wherein the first value is about 75 Denier and the second value is about 150 Denier.
- 25. The article as in claim 1, wherein the first value is about 50 Denier and the second value is about 100 Denier.
- 26. The article as in claim 1, wherein at least one yarn is at least partially formed of a fiber bundle comprising at least one fiber of a first type having a tensile breaking strength of at least about 10 g/Denier.
- 27. The article as in claim 26, wherein at least one yarn consists essentially of fibers having a tensile breaking strength of at least about 10 g/Denier.
- 28. The article as in claim 27, wherein each of the plurality of fill yarns and warp yarns consists of fibers having a tensile breaking strength of at least about 10 g/Denier.
- 29. The article as in claim 26, wherein the fiber bundle comprises a plurality of essentially continuous filament fibers.
- 30. The article as in claim 26, wherein the fiber bundle comprises a plurality of staple fibers spun together.
- 31. The article as in claim 30, wherein the fiber bundle has a primary twist multiplier of at least about 2.7.
- 32. The article as in claim 30, wherein the plurality of staple fibers includes at least one fiber of a first type having a tensile breaking strength of at least 10 g/Denier and at least one fiber of a second type having a tensile breaking strength less than about 10 g/Denier.
- 33. The article as in claim 32, wherein the at least one fiber of the first type is formed of a material selected from the group consisting of: para-aramids; liquid crystal polyesters; ultra-high molecular weight polyethylenes; and poly(p-phenylene-2,6-benzobisoxazole) (PBO).
- 34. The article as in claim 32, wherein the at least one fiber of the second type is formed of a material selected from the group consisting of: polyarnides; cellulosic materials; polyesters; acrylic polymers polymers; and polyolefins.
- 35. The article as in claim 30, wherein at least one yarn is at least partially formed of at least a first fiber bundle and a second fiber bundle plied together.
- 36. The article as in claim 35, wherein the yarn has a secondary ply twist of at least about ¼ that of a primary twist of the first fiber bundle and the second fiber bundle.
- 37. The article as in claim 35, wherein the first fiber bundle comprises the fiber bundle comprising at least one fiber of the first type and the second fiber bundle comprises at least one fiber of a second type having a tensile breaking strength less than about 10 g/Denier.
- 38. The article as in claim 37, wherein the at least one fiber of the first type is formed of a material selected from the group consisting of: para-aramids; liquid crystal polyesters; ultra-high molecular weight polyethylenes; and poly(p-phenylene-2,6-benzobisoxazole) (PBO).
- 39. The article as in claim 37, wherein the at least one fiber of the second type is formed of a material selected from the group consisting of: polyarnides; cellulosic materials; polyesters; acrylic polymers; and polyolefins.
- 40. The article as in claim 35, wherein each of the first fiber bundle and the second fiber bundle comprise at least one fiber of the first type and at least one fiber of a second type having a tensile breaking strength less than about 10 g/Denier.
- 41. The article as in claim 40, wherein the at least one fiber of the first type is formed of a material selected from the group consisting of: para-aramids; liquid crystal polyesters; ultra-high molecular weight polyethylenes; and poly(p-phenylene-2,6-benzobisoxazole) (PBO).
- 42. The article as in claim 41, wherein the at least one fiber of the second type is formed of a material selected from the group consisting of: polyarnides; cellulosic materials; polyesters; acrylic polymers; and polyolefins.
- 43. An article of apparel formed, at least in part, from the fabric as recited in claim 1.
- 44. The article of apparel as in claim 43, wherein the article of apparel is selected from the group consisting of: gloves; aprons; chaps; pants; boots; gators; shirts; jackets; coats; socks; shoes; undergarments; vests; waders; hats; and gauntlets.
- 45. A method comprising the step of:
weaving together a plurality of fill yarns, having a weight per unit length of a first value, and a plurality of warp yarns, having a weight per unit length of a second value greater than the first value, to form woven fabric having a fill yarn cover factor of at least about 75% and a warp yarn cover factor of at least about 100%.
- 46. The method as in claim 45, further comprising before the weaving step, the steps of:
forming at least one fiber bundle by bundling together a plurality of essentially continuous filament fibers; and forming at least one yarn of the plurality of yarns at least in part from the fiber bundle.
- 47. The method as in claim 45, further comprising before the weaving step, the steps of:
forming at least one fiber bundle by spinning together a plurality of staple fibers; and forming at least one yarn of the plurality of yarns at least in part from the fiber bundle.
- 48. The method as in claim 47, wherein the fiber bundle is formed by a Cotton System spinning process and the length of the staple fibers does not exceed about 2 inches.
- 49. The method as in claim 47, wherein the fiber bundle is formed by a Worsted System spinning process and the length of the staple fibers exceeds about 2 inches.
- 50. The method as in claim 47, wherein the fiber bundle has a primary twist multiplier of at least about 3.
- 51. The method as in claim 50, wherein the fiber bundle has a primary twist multiplier of at least about 4.
- 52. The method as in claim 51, wherein the fiber bundle has a primary twist multiplier of at least about 4.5.
- 53. The method as in claim 52, wherein the fiber bundle has a primary twist multiplier of at least about 5.
- 54. The method as in claim 47, wherein the step for forming the at least one yarn comprises plying together the fiber bundle with at least one other fiber bundle.
- 55. The method as in claim 54, wherein the yarn has a secondary ply twist of at least about ¼ that of a primary twist of the fibers forming the at least one yarn.
- 56. A method comprising the step of:
weaving together a plurality of fill yarns and a plurality of warp yarns to form a fabric having a fill yarn cover factor of at least about 75% and a warp yarn cover factor of at least about 100%, at least one of the plurality of yarns forming the fabric comprising spun staple fibers and being coated with a sizing agent prior to or during weaving.
- 57. The method as in claim 56, wherein the sizing agent comprises an adhesive.
- 58. The method as in claim 57, wherein the sizing agent comprises a water soluble adhesive.
- 59. The method as in claim 58, wherein the sizing agent comprises a material selected from the group consisting of: poly(vinyl alcohol), poly(acrylic acid), and starch.
- 60. A article comprising:
a plurality of fill yarns and a plurality of warp yarns woven to form a fabric having a fill yarn cover factor of at least about 75% and a warp yarn cover factor of at least about 100%, at least one of the plurality of yarns forming the fabric comprising at least one fiber bundle formed of spun staple fibers and having a primary twist multiplier of at least about 2.7.
- 61. The article as in claim 60, wherein the fabric has a fill yarn cover factor of at least about 80%.
- 62. The article as in claim 61, wherein the fabric has a fill yarn cover factor of at least about 85%.
- 63. The article as in claim 62, wherein the fabric has a fill yarn cover factor of at least about 88%.
- 64. The article as in claim 60, wherein the fabric has a warp yarn cover factor of at least about 110%.
- 65. The article as in claim 64, wherein the fabric has a warp yarn cover factor of at least about 120%.
- 66. The article as in claim 65, wherein the fabric has a warp yarn cover factor of at least about 130%.
- 67. The article as in claim 66, wherein the fabric has a warp yarn cover factor of at least about 140%.
- 68. The article as in claim 67, wherein the fabric has a warp yarn cover factor of at least about 145%.
- 69. The article as in claim 68, wherein the fabric has a warp yarn cover factor of at least about 150%.
- 70. The article as in claim 60, wherein the fiber bundle has a primary twist multiplier of at least about 3.5.
- 71. The article as in claim 70, wherein the fiber bundle has a primary twist multiplier of at least about 4.
- 72. The article as in claim 71, wherein the fiber bundle has a primary twist multiplier of at least about 4.5.
- 73. The article as in claim 72, wherein the fiber bundle has a primary twist multiplier of at least about 5.
- 74. The article as in claim 60, wherein at least one of the plurality of yarns forming the fabric comprises at least two fiber bundles plied together to form a plied yarn.
- 75. The article as in claim 74, wherein the plied yarn has a secondary ply twist of at least about ¼ that of a primary twist of the at least two fiber bundles.
- 76. The article as in claim 75, wherein the plied yarn has a secondary ply twist of at least about ½ that of a primary twist of the at least two fiber bundles.
- 77. The article as in claim 76, wherein the plied yarn has a secondary ply twist of at least about equal to that of a primary twist of the at least two fiber bundles.
- 78. The article as in claim 60, wherein the fiber bundle is formed by a Cotton System spinning process and the length of the staple fibers does not exceed about 2 inches.
- 79. The article as in claim 78, wherein the fiber bundle is formed by a Worsted System spinning process and the length of the staple fibers exceeds about 2 inches.
- 80. An article of apparel formed, at least in part, from the fabric as recited in claim 60.
- 81. The article of apparel as in claim 80, wherein the article of apparel is selected from the group consisting of: gloves; aprons; chaps; pants; boots; gators; shirts; jackets; coats; socks; shoes; undergarments; vests; waders; hats; and gauntlets.
- 82. An article comprising:
a plurality of fill yarns and a plurality of warp yarns woven to form a fabric having a fill yarn cover factor of at least about 75% and a warp yarn cover factor of at least about 100%, at least one of the plurality of yarns forming the fabric being a plied yarn comprising at least two fiber bundles plied together and having a secondary twist of at least about ¼ that of a primary twist of the at least two fiber bundles.
- 83. The article as in claim 82, wherein the fabric has a fill yarn cover factor of at least about 80%.
- 84. The article as in claim 83, wherein the fabric has a fill yarn cover factor of at least about 85%.
- 85. The article as in claim 84, wherein the fabric has a fill yarn cover factor of at least about 88%.
- 86. The article as in claim 82, wherein the fabric has a warp yarn cover factor of at least about 110%.
- 87. The article as in claim 86, wherein the fabric has a warp yarn cover factor of at least about 120%.
- 88. The article as in claim 87, wherein the fabric has a warp yarn cover factor of at least about 130%.
- 89. The article as in claim 88, wherein the fabric has a warp yarn cover factor of at least about 140%.
- 90. The article as in claim 89, wherein the fabric has a warp yarn cover factor of at least about 145%.
- 91. The article as in claim 90, wherein the fabric has a warp yarn cover factor of at least about 150%.
- 92. The article as in claim 82, wherein the plied yarn has a secondary ply twist of at least about ½ that of a primary twist of the at least two fiber bundles.
- 93. The article as in claim 92, wherein the plied yarn has a secondary ply twist of at least about equal to that of a primary twist of the at least two fiber bundles.
- 94. The article as in claim 82, wherein the fiber bundles each comprise a plurality of essentially continuous filament fibers.
- 95. The article as in claim 82, wherein the fiber bundles each comprise a plurality stretch broken fibers.
- 96. The article as in claim 95, wherein each stretch broken fiber has a length of at least about 20 inches.
- 97. An article of apparel formed, at least in part, from the fabric as recited in claim 82.
- 98. The article of apparel as in claim 97, wherein the article of apparel is selected from the group consisting of: gloves; aprons; chaps; pants; boots; gators; shirts; jackets; coats; socks; shoes; undergarments; vests; waders; hats; and gauntlets.
