Referring to FIG. 1, a yoga mat 100 suitable to be used during asana practice or yoga is shown. The yoga mat 100 prevents slipping of a person and provides support to various body parts, such as elbow and knees while performing yoga. The yoga mat 100 includes a carpet 101 having a pair of longitudinal curved edges, for example, a first longitudinal edge 102 and a second longitudinal edge 104, a body portion 106, and a pair of side wings 108, 110 arranged on opposite sides of the body portion 106. Accordingly, the body portion 106 is arranged substantially centrally to the carpet 101 and a first side wing 108 arranged on a first side of the body portion 106 and a second side wing 110 disposed on a second side of the body portion 106.

As shown, the first side wing 108 extends in a lateral direction from the first longitudinal edge 102 to the body portion 106, the body portion 106 extends from the first side wing 108 to the second side wing 110, and the second side wing 110 extends from the body portion 106 to the second longitudinal edge 104. Accordingly, as shown in FIG. 1, the first side wing 108 is separated from the body portion 106 via a first virtual line 114, while the second side wing is separated from the body portion via a second virtual line 116. The virtual lines 114, 116 acts as fold lines 118, 120 along which the first side wing 108 and the second side wing 110 are folded relative to the body portion 106. Accordingly, each of the side wings 108, 110 is adapted to be displaced/positioned between a folded position, as shown in FIGS. 2 and 3, and an extended position, as shown in FIG. 1.

In the extended position of the side wings 108, 110, the side wings 108, 110 extend outwardly of the body portion 106 in the lateral direction. In the folded position of the side wings 108, 110, the side wings 108, 110 are arranged at least partially overlapping the body portion 106 and hence the carpet 101 provides extra support for exercises that need cushioning under head, knees, or buttocks, as shown in FIG. 3. Moreover, the side wings 108, 110 may be folded to the folded position to cover a body of the user, as shown in FIG. 2, and hence the carpet 101 may also be used as a blanket.

As shown, the body portion 106 includes a substantially rectangular structure extending from a first lateral edge 122 to a second lateral edge 124 in the longitudinal direction, while the side wings 108, 110 include a substantially convex shape and extending from the first lateral edge 122 to the second lateral edge 124 in a longitudinal direction. Accordingly, a width W1 of the first side wing 108 increases from the first lateral edge 122 to a first apex 130 of the first side wing 108 and then decreases from the first apex 130 to the second lateral edge 124. Similarly, a width ‘W2’ of the second side wing 110 increases from the first lateral edge 122 to an apex 132, hereinafter referred to as second apex 132, of the second side wing 110 and then decreases from the second apex 132 to the second lateral edge 124. Also, it may be envisioned that both the first apex 130 and the second apex 132 are arranged offset from a central lateral line of the carpet 101, and are located proximate to the first lateral edge 122 relative to the second lateral edge 124.

In an embodiment, a distance between the first lateral edge and the second lateral edge, i.e., a length of the body portion 106, lies between 66 inches to 72 inches. In some embodiments, the distance may be 69 inches. In an embodiment, the width ‘W1’ of the first side wing 108 at the first apex 130 lies between 21 inches and 25 inches. In some embodiments, the width ‘W1’ of the first side wing at the first apex 130 is 23 inches. Similarly, the width ‘W2’ of the second side wing 110 at the second apex 132 lies between 21 inches and 25 inches. In some embodiments, the width ‘W2’ of the second side wing 110 at the second apex 132 is 23 inches. In an embodiment, a length of the first side wing 108 between the first lateral edge 122 and the first apex 130 i.e., a distance of the first apex 130 from the first lateral edge 122, in the longitudinal direction, may be between 14 inches and 18 inches. In some embodiments, length of the first side wing 108 between the first lateral edge 122 and the first apex 130 i.e., a distance of the first apex 130 from the first lateral edge 122, in the longitudinal direction, is 16 inches. Similarly, a length of the second side wing 110 between the first lateral edge 122 and the second apex 132 i.e., a distance of the second apex 132 from the first lateral edge 122, in the longitudinal direction, may lie between 14 inches and 18 inches. In some embodiments, length of the second side wing 110 between the first lateral edge 122 and the second apex 132 i.e., a distance of the second apex 132 from the first lateral edge 122, in the longitudinal direction, is 16 inches.

Additionally or optionally, the yoga mat 100 includes a towel 140 removably coupled to the carpet 101 and arranged covering the carpet 101. As shown, the towel 140 includes a shape similar to that of the carpet 101, and has a length substantially equal to a length of the carpet 101 and a width greater than a width of the carpet 101. Accordingly, lateral edges 142, 144 of the towel 140 is arranged aligned and above the lateral edges 122, 124 of the carpet 101, while longitudinal edges 146, 148 of the carpet 101 extends beyond/outwardly of the longitudinal edges 102, 104 of the carpet 101 in a lateral direction. A distance between the longitudinal edges 146, 148 of the towel 140 and the associated longitudinal edges 102, 104 of the carpet 101 is between 1 to 3 inches. In an embodiment, the distance between the longitudinal edges of the towel 140 and the associated longitudinal edges of the carpet 101 is 2 inches. As mentioned above, the longitudinal edges 146, 148 of the towel 140 extend beyond the longitudinal edges 102, 104 of the carpet 101, and the extended part of the longitudinally edges 146, 148 of the towel 140 are folded/rolled over the longitudinal edges 102, 104 of the carpet 101 and configured to be coupled to a surface beneath the carpet 101 by a suitable fastening structure, such as, Velcro or snaps. In some embodiments, the width of the towel 140 is substantially equal to the width of the carpet 101 and in such a case, the fasteners are arranged on the top surface of the carpet 101 and bottom surface of the towel 140. Further, the towel 140 is made of an absorbent cloth, such as, cotton or rayon or other suitable fabric able to absorb/wipe/dry a surface, for example, human body.

Further, the yoga mat 100 is configured to be arranged in a collapsed configuration as shown in FIG. 5 to facilitate an easy transport of the yoga mat 100. In the collapsed configuration, the yoga mat 100 is arranged in substantially cylindrical or roller shape and is arranged in the collapsed configuration by rolling the yoga mat 100. The yoga mat 100 is moved to a used or deployed configuration to perform the yoga by unrolling the yoga mat 100. Additionally, or optionally, the yoga mat 100 may further include a strap configured to facilitate holding/hanging of the yoga mat 100 in the collapsed configuration to enable easy transportation of the yoga mat from one place to another, as shown in FIG. 5.

It should be understood that the foregoing description is only illustrative of the aspects of the disclosed embodiments. Various alternatives and modifications can be devised by those skilled in the art without departing from the aspects of the disclosed embodiments.
