Claims
- 1. A calcined, non-templated surface-modified zeolite beta, derived from an as synthesized and templated zeolite beta, characterized in that it has surface aluminum 2p binding energies, as measured by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, of at least 74.8 electron volts and having a Si/Al mole ratio within about ±2 units of the Si/Al mole ratio of the templated zeolite beta.
- 2. A calcined non-templated surface-modified zeolite beta, derived from an as synthesized and templated zeolite beta, characterized in that it has surface aluminum 2p binding energies, as measured by x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, of at least 74.8 electron volts and having a Si/Al mole ratio within about ±2 units of the Si/Al mole ratio of the templated zeolite beta, the zeolite beta prepared by the process comprising treating an as synthesized and templated zeolite beta with an acid at a pH between about 0 and about 2 at a temperature from about 20° C. up to about 125° C. for a time sufficient to obtain an acid treated templated zeolite beta which is then calcined at a temperature of about 550° C. to about 700° C. for a time sufficient to remove the template and provide a calcined non-templated surface-modified zeolite beta.
