Claims
- 1. A catalyst substantially free of pollucite comprising a catalytically active metal and a zeolite L containing caesium in which said zeolite L has been crystallized from a synthesis mixture with a molar composition, expressed as oxides, of:
- ______________________________________ K.sub.2 O/SiO.sub.2 0.15 to 0.40 K.sub.2 O/Cs.sub.2 O 3 to 10 H.sub.2 O/K.sub.2 O 40 to 100and SiO.sub.2 /Al.sub.2 O.sub.3 7 to 13______________________________________
- and containing at least 0.5 ppm by weight of divalent metal cations in an effective amount to obtain substantially only zeolite L.
- 2. A catalyst according to claim 1 wherein the synthesis mixture has a molar composition (expressed as oxides) of:
- ______________________________________K.sub.2 O/SiO.sub.2 0.18 to 0.36K.sub.2 O/Cs.sub.2 O 4 to 7H.sub.2 O/K.sub.2 O 70 to 90andSiO.sub.2 /Al.sub.2 O.sub.3 8 to 12______________________________________
- and contains 0.5 to 15 ppm (by weight) of divalent metal cations.
- 3. A catalyst according to claim 2 wherein the metal is platinum or palladium in an amount of 0.1 to 6.0 weight % based on the total weight of the catalyst.
- 4. A catalyst according to claim 1 wherein the metal is platinum or palladium in an amount of 0.1 to 6.0 weight % based on the total weight of the catalyst.
- 5. The catalyst of claim 1 wherein said divalent metal is selected from the group consisting of Periodic Table Group Ib, II, IV, VI, VII and VIII metals.
- 6. The catalyst of claim 1 wherein said divalent metal is selected from the group consisting of copper, magnesium, calcium, barium, zinc, lead, chromium, manganese, iron, cobalt and nickel.
- 7. The catalyst of claim 6 wherein said divalent metal is magnesium.
- 8. The catalyst of claim 1 wherein said synthesis mixture contains 0.5 to 15 ppm of divalent metal cations.
- 9. The catalyst of claim 1 wherein said crystallized zeolite L is in the form of cylindrical crystals having a wall length between 0.5 and 1 microns and a diameter between 0.2 and 0.4 microns.
