Claims
- 1. A zoom lens assembly adapted to be positioned within a camera, said assembly comprising:
- a barrel containing at least three lens groups movable along an optical axis, said at least three lens groups including a front lens group and a rear lens group;
- a rotatable driving ring for guiding movement of said lens groups, between an accommodation position in which the lens groups are retracted into the camera and in which photographs cannot be taken by said camera and a zooming range in which photographs can be taken by said camera, and for guiding movement of said lens groups within said zooming range;
- said driving ring engaging said lens groups such that rotation of said driving ring will move said lens groups along said optical axis, wherein at least two of said lens groups are engaged by said driving ring such that a distance between said at least two lens groups will remain constant as they are moved within said zooming range, one of said at least two lens groups comprising said front lens group, said front lens group moving over a distance different than a distance that any other of said lens groups move when said lens groups are moved by said driving ring from said zooming range to said accommodation position.
- 2. A zoom lens assembly according to claim 1, further comprising a frame having a photographing opening in front of said front lens group.
- 3. A zoom lens assembly according to claim 2, further comprising a barrier mechanism which opens and closes said photographing opening.
- 4. A zoom lens assembly according to claim 3, further comprising means for actuating said barrier mechanism.
- 5. A zoom lens assembly according to claim 4, wherein said barrier mechanism is actuated by movement of said lens groups into said accommodation position, wherein said front lens group and said rear lens group approach each other when the lens groups are moved into said accommodation position.
- 6. A zoom lens assembly in accordance with claim 1, wherein said front lens group is moved over a distance, greater than the distance over which the other of the at least two lens groups are moved, when said lens groups are moved by said driving ring from said zooming range to said accommodation position.
- 7. A zoom lens assembly in accordance with claim 1, wherein said driving ring comprises a cam ring.
- 8. A zoom lens barrel for a camera, comprising three lens groups, said three lens groups comprising:
- a first lens group and a third lens group connected for movement together; and
- a second lens group for movement relative to said first lens group and said third lens group to effect zooming, said second lens group being solely movable to effect focusing, wherein said third lens group is adapted to move beyond a boundary of a photographic range in which a photograph can be taken, for retraction in the zoom lens barrel, independently of said first lens group.
- 9. A method of moving a zoom lens, said zoom lens being adapted to be positioned in a camera and having a plurality of lens groups, said plurality of lens groups including at least first, second and third lens groups movably positioned along an optical axis of said zoom lens, said first lens group being the lens group closest to an object to be photographed, said method comprising:
- moving said lens groups between an accommodation position in which the lens groups are retracted into said camera and in which photographs cannot be taken, and a zooming range within which photographs can be taken by said camera; and
- moving said lens groups within said zooming range, wherein when said lens groups are moved within said zooming range, the distance between two of said lens groups is uniform, and wherein when said lens groups are moved between said zooming range and said accommodation position, the distance between said two lens groups varies, wherein the two lens groups are closer to each other in the accommodation position than in said zooming range.
- 10. A method of moving a zoom lens according to claim 9, wherein said at least two lens groups comprise said first lens group and said third lens group, said first lens group comprising front lens group being positioned closest to an object to be photographed by said camera, and said second lens group being located between said two lens groups.
- 11. A method of moving a zoom lens according to claim 9, further comprising focusing said zoom lens by moving a focusing lens group with respect to said two lens groups.
