Claims
- 1. A lens shutter camera having a zoom lens, said camera comprising:
- a photographing zoom lens system;
- a system that drives said photographing zoom lens system for zooming, said driving system being operable to move at least one element of said photographing zoom lens system along an optical axis between spaced terminal positions, and to stop only at positions which are separated from each other by at least one discrete focal length step, each of said positions defining a respective focal length of said photographing zoom lens system;
- a detecting system that detects said discrete focal length positions of said photographing zoom lens system, and that outputs a different signal indicative of each of said discrete focal length positions;
- a system that generates a signal for controlling said driving system; and
- a system that controls said driving system in accordance with said signal output by said detecting system and said signal from said generating system, in order to enable an operator to selectively change the focal length of said photographing zoom lens system, only in accordance with said at least one discrete focal length step which changes in a predetermined manner between said spaced terminal positions.
- 2. A lens shutter camera in accordance with claim 1, said controlling means comprising means for controlling said driving means such that movement of said zoom lens system to a final position, determined by said signal generating means, always ends after the zoom lens system travels in a predetermined direction.
- 3. A lens shutter camera in accordance with claim 1, said zoom lens system being movable along the optical axis in a predetermined direction and in a direction opposite to said predetermined direction, said camera further comprising means for terminating movement of said zoom lens system during a zooming operation only when said zoom lens system is moving in said predetermined direction.
- 4. A lens shutter camera in accordance with claim 1, said driving means including a zoom switch.
- 5. A lens shutter camera in accordance with claim 3, said zoom switch being moveable between a neutral, inoperable position, and two distinct zooming direction positions.
- 6. A lens shutter camera in accordance with claim 3, said camera further comprising means for reversing the direction of movement of said zoom lens system prior to termination of said movement, only when said zoom lens system is moving in said opposite direction.
- 7. A lens shutter camera in accordance with claim 1, said driving means including a reversible motor.
- 8. A lens shutter camera in accordance with claim 7, said driving means further comprising a zoom switch.
- 9. A lens shutter camera in accordance with claim 1, said controlling means further comprising means for compensating for backlash in a drive system which connects said driving means to said zoom lens system.
- 10. A lens shutter camera in accordance with claim 1, said detecting means comprising means for detecting a position of said zoom lens system along said optical axis.
- 11. A lens shutter camera in accordance with claim 10, said camera including a driving ring having an outer circumference, said position detecting means comprising a code sheet attached to said outer circumference of said driving ring, said zoom lens system being attached to said driving ring.
- 12. A lens shutter camera in accordance with claim 1, wherein said driving ring comprises a cam ring.
- 13. A lens shutter camera in accordance with claim 1, further comprising means for moving said zoom lens system to a macrophotographing position.
- 14. A lens shutter camera in accordance with claim 1, wherein said driving means comprises means for selectively driving said photographing zoom lens system, in a stepwise fashion to different focal length positions, prior to actuating a shutter operation of said camera.
- 15. A lens shutter camera in accordance with claim 14, wherein said driving means includes a zoom switch.
- 16. The lens shutter camera having a zoom lens according to claim 1, said discrete focal length steps being defined by single focal length step increments.
- 17. The lens shutter camera having a zoom lens according to claim 1, said discrete focal length steps defined by conductive and non-conductive areas of a code sheet of said position detecting means.
- 18. The lens shutter camera according to claim 1, further comprising a zoom actuation system, said driving system moves said at least one element of said photographing zoom lens system by at least one discrete focal length step in association with each operation of said zoom actuation system.
- 19. The lens shutter camera according to claim 1, further comprising a zoom actuation system, said driving system moves said at least one element of said photographing zoom lens system step-by-step, in discrete focal length steps in association with operation of said zoom actuation system.
- 20. The lens shutter camera according to claim 19, continuous operation of said zoom actuation system moves said at least one element of said photographing zoom lens system step-by-step until one of said spaced terminal positions.
- 21. The lens shutter camera according to claim 1, further comprising a zoom actuation system, continuous operation of said zoom actuation system intermittently moves said at least one element of said photographing zoom lens system in discrete focal length steps until one of said spaced terminal positions.
- 22. The lens shutter camera according to claim 1, each focal length position being associated with a unique stopping position of said at least one element of said photographing zoom lens system.
- 23. A lens shutter camera having a zoom lens, said camera comprising:
- a photographing zoom lens system;
- a system that drives said photographing zoom lens system for zooming, said driving system being operable to move at least one element of said photographing zoom lens system along an optical axis, between spaced terminal positions to stop at stepping positions which are separated from each other by at least one discrete focal length step, each of said stopping positions defining a respective focal length of said photographing zoom lens system;
- a detecting system that detects said discrete focal length positions of said photographing zoom lens system and that outputs a signal representative of each of said discrete focal length positions, said detecting system comprising an arrangement of conductive and non-conductive areas, each of said stopping positions being defined by a predetermined relationship to a boundary between conductive and non-conductive regions;
- a system that generates a signal for controlling said driving system; and
- a system that controls said driving system in accordance with said signal output by said detecting system and said signal from said generating system, in order to enable an operator to selectively change the focal length of said photographing zoom lens system in accordance with said discrete focal length positions which change in a predetermined manner between said spaced terminal positions.
